I got a set of 4 RE001's fitted about 6 weeks ago. Surprised to hear they are discontinued. I think they are ok for a street tyre. Price is good. Only thing is though, my previous set lasted somewhere between 25 and 30,000 kms which is pretty poor.

Yep they are replaced by RE0002.

Must have been something with your setup if yours only lasted 25-30KKms (maybe your wheel alignment, tyre pressures, or way you use the car). Mine are going on 25KKms daily driver and that's including 5 track days as well. Still about 1/4 tread left.

To me, 20,000kms or more is a good amount of mileage, but if you expect more - which is fair enough - then you'll need to go for a harder compound which of course isn't going to perform as well.

Yep depends also how much driving is done a year. For me I do around 12,000Kms a year so I am happy with replacing a full set of tyres every 2 years. For someone who does double that they might not be happy buying tyres every year.

IMHO replacing softer tyres regularly (but not over the top), to ensure the best possible grip is worthwhile because you never know when you need it.

back when i had my 180 i had federal (i think it was 595) 215/40/17 stretched over 9inch rim. but theres guys with much crazier stretch than that!

I ran my RE001's at a consistently high pressure (38 psi say) because I prefered the feel that way. So maybe the low km's is my own doing. But like someone else above I only do around 12,000km per year so I dont really care. Change of tyres every 2 years is no big deal.

how much stretch are you planning?

i have 225/45 on 8.5", they seem to strech ok. Ku31 is the better strech tyre, but again, i dont rate it, i hate it LOL.

I had 225's on a 9" and they were quite a nice stretch. With my new set I'm going to be using 235/40/18's on a 9.5" or maybe 225's if i have to but I'd definitely prefer the 235's.

+1 again. Have to agree for tirerack.com being great value. For 4 tires it was $250 for shipping to my door in Sydney in 1 week.

I went the Michelin Pilot Super Sport, which is their new release and they get good writeups. Very happy with them so far but hard to tell until hitting the track. I also thought the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's would be a solid choice, but Swingn has heard otherwise.

It is always tough to gauge these things with a Google search; as a lot of reviews come from blokes coming off very worn treads to brand new ones. I found http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/ to be helpful.

My only verdict is too expensive.

They're more than the Bridgestone S001, Michelin Pilot Sport, Goodyear Eagle F1 and Pirelli P-Zero Rosso's. (all of which I decided were above my price bracket given I needed five of whatever I was to purchase)

225/35/19 Hankook Ventus V12 evo....I'm pretty happy with them, certainly an upgrade from the last Hankooks that were on it.

Hey guys i got a couple of quotes and prices

225/40/18 is a expensive tyre.... but i have decided to go with that size a friend from work recommended 215/45/18 but i spoke to leo and clanrence they suggested i don't go with that size

So I called OTR advance tires in richmond and a place clarence recommened me and i found that place the cheapest if anyone knows any other places they recommend please tell me!

Clarence is right and that size is MORE expensive anyway as it's rarer. 225/40/18 is cheaper than 225/45/18 cheaper than 215/45/18. The ku31 isn't in the same league at the other tires you are considering.

Do you have a problem with buying them online via tirerack? Takes under a week to get here. The last tires I bought were manufactured weeks before I got them and the prices are cheap and service is second to none. Got mine fitted locally for $60.

Some fairly stupidly large differences in price! And the tires will be fresher (be sure to request a manufacture date off them to make sure before you buy)

I'd get the re-11 from tire rack and save yourself a shitload of money or the Hankooks for the value buy (they are pretty good tires). Buying tires locally is a joke, they are all too expensive and if the price is right they are old.
