Front Knock noise in suspension on some bumps

Postby ephesiangts » Wed Jul 27, 2011 2:21 pm

I have an issue with sometimes ill hear and feel(throught accelerator pedal) a knock noise on some bumps in my 04 GT Liberty.
The setup:

20k old Bilstiens
White Line sway bars
STi Strut brace.

Here's the stroy: I bought the car and had its first service at Subaru and I told them there was a knock noise in the suspension. They said it was the shocks. So i replaced them with 20k old items.
The noise was still there. Im thinking its the swaybar linkages?

But everytime I have been back since, they keep ask me when I am going to replace the shocks, cause they still hear it. ITS NOT THE SHOCKS!

Its very frustrating. On a side note, since ionstalling strut brace it is so much stiffer, which is a great experience, made a huge difference.

Any ideas people? I have had the LCA bushes replaced aswell.

The strut insert bolts may be loose, or it may be swaybar links loose/worn (as you stated), it could also be tie rod ends (which would set your alignment way out of whack).
Built not bought, it's a way of life.

Its not the strut insert as they were replaced and tightened. Its not the tiered ends because it did get an alignment after struts were replaced, and they would(should) have picked that up.
They only thing it possible could be is the sway bar links etc... was just wondering if others had similar issues?

Swaybar links are pretty easy fix, They are about $52 each, or if you go aftermarket I would say considerably cheaper.

My mate had a knocking noise similar. I had a look under his car and found the swaybar link bolts not fully tight. Tightened them up, knock when away.

They have been checked but somehow I dont beleive them.

Issue is in order to tighten properly, you need the weight on the suspension and its too low and I dont have ramps. etc, ill haver to get a shop whic has a 4 poster to get it up and check with me there!

They are ok to tighten in the air, I do out of laziness, just jack it up and check.

Front Knock noise in suspension on some bumps

You can jack it up, then put some wood under the wheels and then lower it, this will give you enough room to tighten it up.

Is this problem your having on more noticable on smaller bumps at lower speeds? at all 4 corners? sounds more plasticy than metal on metal? as thats the issue im currently having and hoping you find the issue, might help me with mine. Did a spanners check on saturday morning, found my plastic undercover loose, wasnt that, check swaybar links etc. Ive recently put new springs in and my stock shocks have about 130k's on them... so id assumed i need new ones. Anyways, any further news as to your noise issue?
