Guys, the original bushes (I got them today) - can you just replace the bushes only, or do you have to use the small metal rings also? (are these the anti-lift 'shims'?). I'm assuming they're an option?

the pakage containing all the parts has a very very simple set of instructions written in black permanent marker (so the shop you take it to cant screw it up) which tells you which shims (metal rings) to use

if you dont install the shims you will do damage to the suspension parts and the bush

Hey Phat,

Finally getting around to installing the shims, however my set didn't have your 'simple' instructions. Only 3 pages in japanese ;p

I have 2 small, 4 med and 2 large shims. Assuming the post a few pages back is correct, 2 small onto and 2 med onbottom. Leaving the 2 large and 2 med as spares. To increase antilift, can jam the large shims on the bottom.

Sound about right???

Cheers!

small shims at the top and the large at the bottom ...Just make sure there around the correct way as only one side of the shim is reset to center the bush

the 4 medium sided shims are paper weights

Leo, please post the pictures from when you changed over to the new bushes.
This will give a much better indication of just how bad the stock bushes are.

I'll finally get around to putting mine in tommorow, can't wait.

Question is, the thin plastic rings with the foam? Do they actually get used? I can't see them in any of the photos posted here.

the parts you are talking about are a resent addiction to the kit

they slip over the shims before before installation with the foam facing towards the bush .. make sure they dont wedge beteen the shim and the bush

you dont realy need these installed as they are designed to keep the snow (in Japan) of the bush and freezing the rubber which may cause problems with it flexing correctly

bushes are in, and like someone else here.. my mechanic thought he knew best and put the shims in the wrong way... i made him change it of course.

they feel solid, and you can notice less 'lift' . Excellent product Michael.

Had these installed today. Won't get a chance to really test them out until the weekend; the slow drive home in peak-hour traffic did little for me. I think steering is a bit more responsive. It's smoother than it used to be... although my existing bushes were in good condition, they had quite a stiff feel to them which is now gone.

The mechanic did note the control arm position was changed as a result of these bushes. Is that expected? (not that he elaborated beyond the change of position)

Also I asked him to install the larger shim underneath and the smaller on top - as marked on the pack provided by Phat and as per his recent advice in this thread. (Mechanic was skeptical of this but said he did it as requested). Earlier posts in this thread have said to use the medium shims underneath. Why the change?
