Anyone able to recommend a brand?

I'm after a CB Radio hand held. I noticed that they can go up to 5w but unsure what brand i should be looking at.
Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks,

Brian

GME TX670 is a good unit for a good price
2watts of power is enough for most situations.
and Dick Smith usually have them cheaper than anywhere

Dick Smith don't list any GME radios on their website anymore.
They are very much getting out of the hobbyist market, see: http://enews.enewsltd.com.au/cts/click? ... 8lRuA768l4

PrestigeCom have the TX670 for $90.20 http://www.prestigecom.net.au/index.php ... ts_id=1761

GME & Uniden seem to be the leading manufacturers of CBs out there.
Was looking into this a little while ago

I'm a big fan of GME if you want a smaller unit, and Vertex or icom if you want something a bit beefier and have the money to spend.

I personally own a GME TX680 (3W - reasonable amount of power from a tiny radio) and a Vertex VX426. Also have a GME TX3440 waiting (along with so many other things) to be installed in my car. I recently sold a GME TX6200 handheld to a friend and that thing was bloody solid-as.

I hear more complaints about quality and performance of the Uniden units than GME ones.

I can also strongly recommend purchasing from Prestige Communications in WA - cheap prices, good service and free shipping on most items.

What do you want to use the radio for and how much range do you need? Bear in mind that manufacturer's range claims on packaging are generally bullshit and will vary wildly with terrain, antenna type, battery charge and radio quality. (not all 2W/3W/5W radios are equal)
