New Bridgestone S001's and dodgy wheel alignment

Postby fenis » Thu Jun 30, 2011 11:29 pm

I just got all 4 stock RE050A's replaced with the new S001's (I was told they are replacing the RE050A's) on my 07 Spec B and got a wheel alignment done at the same tyre place they were fitted. The new S001's feel very grippy (have only done 100kms on them so should get even better) however there is now a sort of wheel bearing or tyre noise which increases in frequency as speed goes up!! My old tyres were bold as (65k kms on the stock tyres) and the new tyres are noisier! I thought as tyres get older they get more noisey? Could they have damaged a wheel bearing from removing/reinstalling the wheels?

The car feels like it turns and handles fine but the noise is shitting me! It's not that loud at all but definitely noticeable. Also the car does pull to the left slightly (a bit too much for my liking). So I looked closely at my wheel alignment spec sheet to see check if there was anything dodgy and found a big change in the left front caster of 20 degrees!! WTF? Here is my spec sheet:

FRONT: (LH/RH) new | (LH/RH before)
Individual toe +0.1mm/+0.1mm | +1.1mm/-2.1mm (lots of wear on outside of old front left tyre)
Camber -00deg37'/-00deg58' | -00deg37'/-00deg58' (unchanged)
Caster -14deg35'/+05deg33' | +05deg29'/+05deg32' (WTF a 20deg change in LH caster???)

REAR: (LH/RH) new | (LH/RH before)
Individual toe +0.4mm/+0.4mm | -0.2mm/-1.0mm
Camber -00deg46'/-01deg00' | -00deg46'/-01deg00' (unchanged as well)

I'm going to take my car back there on my next day off and ask if that is a typo or is it causing my wheel bearing type noise.. What do you guys think of my wheel alignment specs?

Thanks I will check that this weekend.

Just rang them and they said the caster isn't adjustable so it's just the sensor going whacko and to ignore that value LOL.

Still the wheel bearing type noise is unacceptable and it's getting louder..
