Bonnet scoop/Air intake

Postby MattyBeloved » Mon May 30, 2011 3:12 am

Heyya guys.
I'm thinking of adding a scoop to my bonnet, K&N pod to the throttle body and making a box to seal it all up...
How would this go for performance?? Is it the perfect mix of short ram and cold air??

And how would i go about stopping it sucking water in the rain..
Just an idea..

Cheers for your time in reading guys!

waste of time and effort.
the you have the water/ debris issues to think about

remove the convoluted piping from the front end of the intake system
enlarge the opening into the airbox
make a nice CAI from ally/ stainless into the inner guard
and that's about the best you will do.

insulating the stock airbox will help to keep the intake air a little cooler too.

check the NSW regs with the RTA regarding the legality of aftermarket CF bonnets.. Last I heard a non OEM carbon fibre bonnet was big no-no.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case in VIC as well. It is a Nanny State :angry2:

IMO don't do it. There is a Liberty 2.0R with a bonnet scoop that parks at my work, it looks hella tacky and it's easy to pick out as a base model 2.0R, especially with the stock exhaust etc.

If you are dead set on the idea, perhaps look at some sort of bonnet vent, not a scoop as such. It's a bit more discreet.

I heard/read somewhere that as long as it's fibreglass reinforced underneath it's ok. But I'm not sure if that's actual legislation, or whether that was some punk-ass keyboard warrior saying that.

In any case, I'd suggest, save for a new car - buy a real B4 :) if the bonnet is going to cost $1K, you're about 10% of the way towards buying the whole car anyway, after you sell your GX ;)

Then postage... Was going to be $500 plus whatever the Australian government wanted to charge me on top of GST..

Never the less, this is what i was looking at http://www.andysautosport.com/subaru/20 ... 21251.html

Cheers anyway for the replies!!
