Well the latest update with the Sherpa. I took my dog for a drive to go to an off leash park in Penrith. On the way home he took a dislike to some of the cornering and decided to chunder in the back. Got most of it cleaned up but I only realised the next morning that it had soaked into the wood underneath (yes, wood). So I pulled the carpet out which was a bit of a pain because to get the carpet out I had to disconnect my sik by nyns and pull out their enclosures and remove the cargo barrier. But it wasn't all bad news. I decided it was a good chance to lay another layer of Dynamat on the floor in the rear, and while I had the tailgate up, I took the trim off and slapped a few bits of Dynamat on the outer layer of the tailgate.

She shuts with a bit more of an Audi type noise now instead of a 24 year old Subaru Sherpa ha-ha.

Actually, I take the dog with me in the Sherpa quite a lot so does anyone have any suggestions on what I can line the wood with to avoid this happening again??

Hopefully I'll get a chance to put the carpet back in this weekend and I might tinker with the tailgate trim and make up a new piece with some MDF. It will give me a good practice to eventually make up new side trims to mount the McIntosh sub I bought off Gambit.

Perhaps check out Clark rubber and see if you can lie something down and cutout what you need to for the sub?

Good idea, maybe a thin layer of linoleum or something.

I'm also tossing up the idea of applying some of that spray-om sound damping in the wheel arches as well. There is soooooo much road noise.

Ordered some little toys today during a moment of brain storming. I was thinking to myself how I want some LED lighting in the Sherpa but how on earth I am going to be able to use the couple of T10 LEDs I have sitting around... eBay gave me the answer:

So i ordered 6 of them for $9.30 posted. Laughing!

Like I said, I have a couple of LEDs laying around, so I am thinking I can hopefully located the dash lights, replace whatever connector they plug into with one of these. I will also try and replace the instrument cluster lights with the T10 sockets if there is enough space and perhaps put a couple in the footwells hooked up to a switch that I'll have to install on the dash. There is no door switch for the main cabin light to turn on when the door opens which sucks so a switch on the dash will have to do.

Another thing I am tossing up on, and not 100% sure is feasible. I'd like to get rid of the old school round air intake. Would it be possible to take it out and replace it with a pod filter into the correct sized piping straight into the carb??? Any advice anyone???

Another quick update;

Over the weekend I picked up a cheap 4 channel Alpine MRP-F200 4 x 40wRMS. I was at the in-laws on the weekend near Bathurst and the seller was in Lithgow so luckily I saved $20 on postage. Picked up the amp for $37, how good is that!!!

Threw in the amp yesterday quickly while I had 20mins that I wasn't delerious with fever and it works fine, quickly tuned and it sounds pretty damn good for $37! The amp is nothing special to look at but I'll take some pics when I tidy the cabling up and mount it properly.

Another little bonus while at the in-laws, it turns out that the LED strip that I bought off Leo and gave to the father-in-law after I sold my sedan was sitting there unused. So I am thinking it will fit nicely under the dash as a footwell light... Hopefully.

I thought so. Will see how it goes when I put the interior back together,(if the bloody rain would stop to give the carpet a chance to dry out), and I hook up the rear sik by nyns and give it a good work out.

Hopefully after this little set back (read: spew incident), I can finally get cracking on installing the sub. Too many things I want to do and not enough bloody time LOL. Had another idea about installing a cheap reversing camera with a little external monitor mounted to the dash. Will see what I can get away with LOL.

Well I got delivery of some small bayonet type LED's I was going to use as my dash lights. Turns out my memory was playing tricks on me. The dash lights do twist into place however they are a T10 type globe!!! GRRR!!! I tried the T10 type LED's I had here that I used to use in my parkers on the Lib but they didn't work for some reason. I switched them around to change polarity which made no difference, so I am wondering whether the LEDs have died since taking them out of the Lib (I know a couple of the LEDs on the boards had already died before I took them out of the Lib) or whether any LED's will work as a dash light.

Which reminds me, I should go take a 'before' pic now while it's dark to show the difference LED's make when I finally get some to work in the dash. Leo, I shall be PMing you soon

So I have a couple of bayonet type LED's here doing nothing, brand new, never used so if someone wants them, let me know.

Latest update:
The trim on the tail gate has been slowly falling apart over the last few months so I decided to get off my butt and make a new one as practice for when I decide to install Gambit's sub. Here it is so far:

A few bits of left over Dynamat that I threw in a couple of weeks ago:



I decided to go with 6mm thick MDF to add a bit of stability, here is the back of the MDF with a coat of spray paint to help seal it from any water that may get in the tail gate:


I managed to reuse the factory clips, the MDF was a bit thick so I use a speed bore to drill into the MDF a few millimetres and have them countersunk to sit flush and and superglued the clips down. End result looks pretty good, I'll take some more pics tomorrow when the glue on the carpet has dried.

Well, here is your answer:


My left over LED strip I bought off Leo for my old GT Sedan. I decided I would install it on the front of the trim to light up the rear of the cabin a bit. I have cut a strip out of the carpet I have used to line the MDF so it will sit flush hopefully. Moar pix tomorrow.

Here is the final product. Not entirely happy with the fit so I need to do some fiddling around with it to get it right but it's good enough for now.
