Introduce yourself

No Longer a Potential Liberty Owner from SA

Postby bradr » Tue May 10, 2011 1:33 pm

G'day all,

I have owned 3 Subarus in a row (two DL wagons and an Impreza) and said that my next car would always be another Suby. Anyway, I reneged and made the mistake of recently buying a BMW 3-series Msport. Nice car but my partner HATES it.

So, it's off to the shops again to mend my ways and we're in the market for another Subaru (when you're on a good thing...) - this time a Liberty.

Every time I do a Google for Libertys, I always get a link to this forum so I thought it might be best I join and see what I find.

Most likely will be a Blitzen or a "3.0 something else" in a Liberty - apparently I'm not allowed to have a turbo and I'm unimpressed with the output of the 2.0l and 2.5l versions. I can see myself adding a body kit and updating the rims if I don't get a Blitzen so I can see this forum helping me along there. Like any other forum though, I hope I can give back some of what I take and have already made one post to try and help out.

I'm in SA in the Barossa Valley about an hour north of the city (that's country here in Adelaide and not outer suburbs!!).

cheers,

bj

Welcome. There's a whole stack of SA members on here. The 3.0RB is a great car ESP with the 6speed and all round great package. This forum us filled with gen 4 owners so plenty of info and mods to cycle through.

Cheers guys and thanks for the welcome.

Nottage, I work in Tanunda but I actually live in Eden Valley - EV is an hour from the city via the freeway and about 20 minutes from Tanunda (depending on who is driving.....)

The house is on about 2.5km of dirt and the Impreza used to eat it up, not matter when it was last graded - the Beemer does ok but does tend to lose its tail a little sometimes.

I'm afraid my car is not a townie car and it gets driven on all sorts of roads.

We took a Blitzen for a spin on the weekend and the good lady seemed happy with it - I'm fairly sure the bank manager won't be pleased, though - but I'll let him do the worrying (no point in both of us worrying about it). Otherwise there's another Blitzen I spotted on carpoint as well as a couple of local spec Bs that look ok. Will take a more serious look after next week.

cheers again

Welcome BJ,

More and more SA folk pop up each week! Living around some dirt roads is something many of us can only dream of...Good choice with a H6, plenty of grunt there as is. If your bank manager becomes too unhappy feel free to give us a buzz & I'll sort out a loan for ya! :D

Seeya round mate,

Tristan

Ah fair enough mate, makes sense then. Yeah i know what your reference to a time depending on who is driving through those roads! :P Definitely some good fun to be had up that way and around Lobethal and Kersbrook :)

Yeah well living out at Gawler and near Roseworthy, etc. i have quite a few mates that live on dirt. My car see's a lot of it as well, and isn't always the cleanest car on the roads! You're right though, the Suby's eat it up for breakfast! I funnily enough took my car out there one day TRYING to lose some traction on some real open roads, and it was near enough impossible! I'm still so dumbfounded about how amazing it sticks to the dirt. Even ungraded stuff like you say. Beats the shit out of my previous FWD with stiff springs and hard low-profile tyres! :P

Best of luck with finding a car mate :)

Welcome!

If you ever need any mechanical work done I work at Eblens in Glenelg ;) There is an Eblens service centre out your way too :)

Sticking to the dirt, I dunno, I had mine on dirt/gravel over Easter, yeah it goes well, corners great, but clutch kicks or take off I was getting the back to slide with only 3,000-4,000 revs and I only have a 2.5i. Taking off I didn't need to dump the clutch either, just ease on the throttle as your turning in. hehe

Oh without a doubt i exaggerated a bit...It's not "impossible", i managed to get it to happen. But like i said, coming from a FWD with stiff springs and hard as F*&K low-profile tyres, this thing is amazing on the dirt. 8)

Well, it's done!

No longer a "Potential" owner and now an "Actual" owner!

Ended up getting a MY06 SpecB Sedan - sadly in auto but it was an excellent deal at $16,000 with 85,000km on the clock. Had it all checked out and, but for a few minor things, it should be a good car.

And, with the funds from the BMW, I have money leftover to spend on rims and body parts and I'll put my old custom plates back on, too.

The only faults are that it's an auto and the colour is "Violet Grey" which is a sort of bluish/purple-silver - I said to myself I would never own another silver car. I think the Gods hate me and are laughing at me under their breath.

Still, looking forward to tarting the girl up in the months ahead and meeting with many of you guys on some drives through the hills and backroads of Adelaide and beyond.

cheers,

bj

$16,000 is a bargain, makes me sad at how much I paid for my GT only a couple of years ago :(

See you around Adelaide BJ
