So does this mean you don't need to create the specially named playlists in iTunes and can instead just operate the iPod normally? If so then wow since all reports I've read of the Clarion adapter up until now have said that you lose control of the iPod itself.

i'm pretty sure you can coz i used to just select some songs when i knew that my playlists didn't include them, still haven't got my ipod back from the cops (they recovered it) so can't test it for u at the moment. But its more convenient to just use the set clarion playlists that can be controlled from the deck. easier than driving and controlling your ipod at the same time.

Can I ask, what was the conclusion here? Does the Clarion adapter thingo still require you to create specially named playlists in iTunes in order for you to be able to navigate your iPod using the head unit instead of more simply being able to use the iPod itself?

Yes, u need the playlists to use the 2 3 4 5 6 buttons, otherwise it will say no disc. if you have no playlist and use 1 it just plays normal.

I'm a bit annoyed that the random thing ain't random, its the same sequence over and over again .sigh

Do you need to name the playlists anything in particular? cos I put it in, and the buttons 2-6 don't work or light up...

From memory, I think they have to be called "CLARION1", "CLARION2", ... "CLARION5"
