Gen 5 Liberty GT Wagon - First Mod

Postby garbo41610 » Thu Mar 17, 2011 5:44 pm

Ok, I finally got around to having the slotted rotors from my Gen 4 GT fitted to the Gen 5. They only had a few hundred km's or so on them so they are still pretty well new and have improved the braking considerably. You can't really see them through the 149 spoke 18's on the GT but they are there.

Next will hopefully be the mufflers. The mrs wants something louder so I must oblige her. Have already contacted PHAT about some options (which were a touch more exxy than what I thought but it's all good).

nice.....you're right that's a hell of lot of spokes on those wheels  .

15, like the 151C's and a few others wheels but yeah they're chunky aren't they.

that second mod's worth a few KW's.

happy modding

My next mod will be to get the panel work a guy gave me fixed up. She goes into the panel beaters tomorrow to have the panel cut off about half way up the C pillar, and a new panel welded on. The accident was a little while ago now, so I'll be glad to get her back.

Looks good Phil. Great to know the Gen 4's rotors will fit on the Gen 5.

Well, since my last post, I have an update on the repairs to the rear quarter.

I dropped the car off this morning all hunky dorey. However, the call I just received changes all that. It turns out, the smash repairer only puts an order in for parts the day before or the day the car gets dropped off (not sure why, but I am sure they have their reasons). Now, they can't find a rear quarter panel for a GenV in Aus and with the devastation in Japan, they aren't sure when they will be able to get one in. So a word of advice for all...

DON'T HAVE AN ACCIDENT FOR A LITTLE WHILE!!!

Anyways, if anyone knows of a drivers side rear quarter panel please let me know LOL.

FINALLY HEARD BACK FROM MY SMASH REPAIRER!!!!

My quarter panel is in the country!!!! WOOOO HOOOO!!!! Now just need to wait for him to finish up a couple of jobs and then in goes my shaggin' wagon for a couple of weeks to be repaired. I'll report on The Smash Repair Centre workmanship when I get the car back. They do mostly Subaru repairs and they are just finishing up on the hail damaged cars from all the dealerships in the area (Penrith VW, Subaru, Holden and whatever else is at the new car dealer complex in Penno). Something like 150 cars in 3 months! So far they have been really good. Very apologetic about the whole situation, they have had a lot of cars sitting there undriveable (not just soobies, Honda's, Nissan's, Toyota's etc) so they know how frustrated everyone is, but hey, at least I can still drive mine. The other thing I love about their whole organisation, the girl at the front desk when I went in there was an absolute 35.5 out of 10.

Looking forward to dropping the car off

At the risk of sounding totally sexist...

Maybe they hired her to give customers a "quick fix" while waiting for their long fix

Well, it turns out the GT is going from comfortable daily driver to a work horse towing a pet grooming trailer. I'm taking this opportunity to tell the mrs that the trailer is going to be too heavy for the factory suspension and that the springs will need to be upgraded to something a bit more heavy duty. I am thinking of going with some STi springs, I am aware there are probably better options out there for the job but I like mods to be somewhat OEM.

PHAT man, has an email!
