Is it possible to install anything to prevent stones flicking in and bending the little metal bits on the TMIC?
I can see your stock one has a few of those, as does mine.

just up grade the tmic :D ..... oem fins are very soft, the fins on both the avo & perrin tmic are alot firmer and are alot harder to bend

i'd definitely be in for a set too.

Also Lozza, do the STi mufflers sound like straight through mufflers now? ie. like the PHAT quads? Or do they still retain the STi quad sound only louder? Sound clip? lol

bear in mind I have EL headers so don't have boxer rumble as such and stainless steel piping but they sound deep at idle with nice bark when revved.

not tooo loud and no drone when cruising.

they do sound like straight thru muffs but a bit quieter cos when they were put together we weren't sure how much sound deadener to put in and so we leaned towards the quieter side and put a fair amount in.

I'd say that if none had of been put in the muffs would be a lot louder, prob too loud for me.

also the sound has gotten deeper, less stainless steel sound since carboned up.

I'll def do a sound clip this week

cheers
Loz

In all honesty, the TMIC should be the next on the list. Esp in Perth, anything above 18'C and you're pushing sh!t up hill with the OEM TMIC and a reflash. I'd personally add a 3 port solenoid at the same time but that's another one of my 'controversial' (i.e.: not the common path) suggestions. ;-)

EDIT: Out of interest, next time you have the car tuned, do a power run with the mufflers on and off, see just how much they're ACTUALLY costing you in power and torque. Last time I did that on a modded WRX it cost 1.5kW ATW (ie: SFA on a dyno) but that was a single muffler setup.

is def an improvement on the OEM one.

Yeh, I've been thinking about a 3 port or EBC of some sort as I don't believe I'm getting the most out of my current setup. :?: Will talk to Sean the tuner.

The reason most tuners won't push a 3 port option is because it's a high cost exercise on it's own (install, tune, etc) for basically no peak power increase. All you're gaining is stability of power and torque delivery across the rev range. i.e.: smoothness. Most people want a big kW increase with each part and this one does little for numbers but a huge amount for drivability.
This is also why they'd also sooner sell you an EBC (which includes a 3 port typically) because you end up with a toy you can see every time you get in the car, not just the smoother boost. EBC's WILL deliver better results than a 3 port on it's own, but at 5-6 times the price, they'd want to!!

Love it mate. I think the EL headers sounds much better than the boxer rumble.

Yeah cheers, it certainly seems to boost quicker too with the EL's but maybe It's just me :| and you get a nice rumble at idle and a good bark when pushed.

plus with the hyperflow CAI I've got all this sucking and blowing happening.....bit like a porn movie  (sorry it's late in the morning here)

I'm happy for now...a good cheap mod.

#235 REBORN (07 t/b STI)

Postby Gambit » Wed Mar 23, 2011 9:57 am

Sounds great well done! I am a huge fan of the equal length header sound, understated but very good when opened up wot.
