Replacing stock 2-DIN Gen3

Postby osd101 » Fri Dec 03, 2010 9:34 pm

Hey,

Fairly new here and looking for any tips on new head unit install.

Have convinced the wife to buy me a new Clarion 2-DIN for christmas, gonna get this model http://www.clarion.com/au/en/products/2010/audio/source_unit/2din/CX609A/au-en-product-pf_1259413421675.html

Will be buying from America on ebay, as I we end up saving about $240 that way. The seller provides wiring harness and antenna adapter, anything else I may need?

Also, any suggestions on where I should run the usb connection cable to? Was hoping to keep it rather inconspicuous, yet easy enough to plug in the ipod usb cord?

Cheers in advance

AVOID THE AMERICAN ONE!

I purchased the same one for my car. When doing my research, I found that the American version lacks the Variable Colour Illumination so ended up sourcing a European stock item which does.

Run the USB cable into the glove compartment. And that system is really nice BTW, you'll like it. I miss it now that I have a touch screen.

Thanks for the tip, but the version I'm getting definitely has the illumination option.

I was thinking of going down the touch screen route, but decided it would be a pain trying to use it while driving.

I'm thinking I might run the USB cord out the bottom of the centre console, as I will mOst likely attach it to my iPhone which I will be getting a holder for.

How do you thnk the stock sPeakers will hold up?

Would be OKAY but sometime down the line it would be good to upgrade them :)
