Projector foglight conversion on my08 spec B (pics added)

Hey,

Not sure if this was the correct place to post so feel free to move.

Just wondering if anyone has had a go at converting the my08 Spec B fog lights to projector type ones. I looked at a replacement unit that will fit in the cut out but will need some sort of a shroud to fill the gaps. I want to convert to projector style lights so i can install hid's without blinding oncoming traffic.

Here is the light fittings i looked at:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PROJECTOR-FOG-LI ... 193wt_1139

Some thing like this painted matt black could be used for the shroud:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E46- ... 155wt_1026

I also found these connectors so no cutting or spicing needed just put these on the power feed for the ballast and plug directly into the existing fog light harness
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H11-H9-H ... 3469wt_899

Any thoughts welcome and appreciated.

I was also thinking of doing this, but then i thought, the amout of times i need my foggies, its a waste of money (for me anyway).

BUT, while i was thinking about it, i came across this: http://store.ijdmtoy.com/Projector-Fog-Light-HID-Ready-CCFL-Angel-Eye-Halo-p/ot_projector_sku73.htm

Has an angel eye around it, but it should be able to be disconnected, plus its 3.15" (about 80mm) so it might be a straight fit (no need for the chrome surround?)

I think you can find it on ebay too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-STi-Projector-Fog-Light-Lamps-Angel-Eye-Halo-73-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem588950ec11QQitemZ380260903953QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

The ijdm store also has kits that have the projector lense with a HID kit. And also have the projector lenses without the angel eyes. Just have a look.

Thanks,

I did look at those and as you said they would be a better fit due to there size but i just don't like the look of them. I am trying to achieve something that could pass as a factory setup i have always been very fussy with the mods to my car. I like them not to look like mods but more the way it rolled out of the factory.

I will be sure to post up some pics and stuff if i get this done.

recently i have installed 3000k HID on a 09 Forester XT which got reflector fog light same as 07+Liberty (i think the Forester fog light is lot larger and sits higher), must say it's not as bad as you think ... but projector would be better ... 8) ... anyway my friend is very happy with the result especially when he went to the snows.

So my projector lights arrived today and i put them on. They are only mounted temporarily so i can see what the light output will be like one thing i have noticed is that the beam is not as wide as the originals. This kind of sucks as the originals used to light up along the side of the road. However these do look like they will be putting out much more light.

I took some pics but the real test will be when it gets dark and i go for a drive to test them.

Let me know what you think, If they do light up the road better i will order the hid kit and the shrouds i looked at then they will look pretty good i think anyway.

Very nicely done mate. They look great! Have you thought about what colour HID's you're going to use? I use to run 3000K HIDs in my old car and they looked great.

p.s. - my humble old '98 model Gen2 had projector fog lights standard

Went for a drive this evening lights work really good i think when the hid kit is in they would be pretty close in performance to the headlights. In there current form they are about the same as any standard car, Pretty good for driving lights.

I am trying to decide if i should move these closer together and mount in the honeycomb part of the grills with 3000k's on another switch to use as fogies. Then try to chase a set of 3" projectors to put where these are currently mounted with the 6000k's to match the current hid headlights as i use these driving lights all the time. I will have to have a play when the shrouds get delivered.
