05 McIntosh 'Focus Error'

Postby BlackGT » Sat Aug 28, 2010 9:07 am

Anyone know what the deal with this is? CD's are either not playing at all (most of the time) or skipping. Can this be fixed or is it update or replace? Thanks

We just bought a 2nd hand '06 Liberty 3.0R-B from a Subaru dealer which had this error - we purchased the extended warranty so when we realised this was an ongoing issue I called them up - thankfully us they agreed to repair it.

The head unit was sent back to Clarion/McIntosh where they (apparently) replaced the laser/lens in the unit - I hate to say it, but I think it's a pretty dire situation for your CD player & will need repair.

Seems to be fixed now, but I haven't played too many CD's since

(I also should mention I tried a cleaning disc etc & it didn't help.)

Try a lens cleaner ... my McIntosh in my MY05 had the same problem and it seemed to settle after using a lens cleaner. However, I replaced it not long after with an aftermarket head unit so I am not sure how much of a long term solution that is. Apparently the repair costs a lot of $$$ so if it persists it may be better to replace it with something else (lens cleaner first though is a cheap option).
