No need to change them if there ok, i find the rear wears quicker, and in only recent times have just replaced the rear, then you can rotate them as you see fit.

He's right, don't miss out on this deal.
You would be kicking yourself not buying all 4 when you have to fork out $450 each for the fronts when they need replacing.

Also someone posted a thread this week about some diff part or some such that is having to be replaced, and the mechanics believe it's because he changed only two tyres and not all 4.
Can't for the life of me find the thread, maybe someone else can.

Thanks, that deal does sound very interested, but am I to assume those tyres are from the update spec b's which I think have a different tyre size to the older spec b's? Is this the case?

I don't know what car you have, but the tyres are the Bridgestone Potenza 215/45R18 RE050A's, and the Spec.B Rim's themselves which you can buy separately are to suit MY07-MY08 in that sort of shadow chrome colour.

Here is a picture of both the rim and the tyre that is being sold.

Oh and a close up of the Tyre....apologies for the quality. Best I could do in photoshop without going out and taking another photo.

Sorry Coyote what do you mean by that?
Do you mean the TB STi gets 225/40R18's?

I was just posting the tyres available from Tyrepower for $225 each.

Following on from other thread re diff clunk, here is a good reference re the 6mm/1/4" circumference rule:

As I mentioned earlier and Jim has now linked to a really informative thread (a must read) I also found the link to the diff problem that is going to cost an estimated $1500 to fix, more than likely due to replacing only 2 tyres instead of 4.
Here is that thread, and considering how insanely cheap you can get the RE050A's right now.....just buy all 4 mate...seriously.

zoidberg99 wrote:Yeah I've had it checked out today and your spot on. I'm pretty certain it's the viscous coupling in the centre diff.
I'm getting a few quotes but it looks like it's going to set me back at least $1500 to fix. It's weird cause I never thrash it, apparently it's caused by replacing the tyres two at a time rather than all four at once.

I'll keep you posted ....

So basically your options are.....pay $450 for 2 tyres right now, and then 4-6 months later pay $800-900 for 2 more tyres (these tyres are usually $450-480 retail)....or buy 4 tyres for $900 + $60 delivery right now, and help prevent your diff getting fucked by putting on tyres that have too much tread compared to the front's and paying another $1500 for nothing.

Alternatively you could have the new tyre shaved to match the circumference of the others.

The science behind it may be practical for motorsport, but were talking day to day driving, Its also very unsafe is general driving conditions, and unroadworthy australia wide.

What's unsafe about it? It's not as if the tyre is being shaved beyond the tread wear indicators.

I posted it as an alternative to getting 4 new tyres, if there is concern about meeting the 6mm circumference recommendation from Subaru. I have not heard of anyone going to these lengths in matching tyres though.

In any case, if the other 3 tyres are also worn within legal limits, then there is no safety issue at all in shaving the 4th tyre down to match. In fact it could be argued that safety is being improved by having 4 matched tyres.
