Well done mate, good negotiation skills. Hope they do a decent job on it - I am sure they will be under some pressure to get it right.

Subaru Australia are to recondition heads etc & suply new short motor & gasket kit free of charge & I've agreed to contribute $1800 towards labour. To be honest I just couldn't be arsed arguing any more.

Work has now resumed & I've been told I'll have the car back next week.

good stuff lets hope they put together a good engine for you..and dont forget to give it a bit straight way to bed in those new rings

i just tried to find it Nic but couldnt find it either but this is a good web site.

http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm

have a read for yourself and make your own mind up.

points generally to remember make sure the car is warmed up but not left idling for too long.

if you can load it up going up a hill and not revving its tits off its good for the rings.

And change the oil and filter as soon as you can.

It was a 400km trip home from the dealer for me me and I dropped it as soon as I got home.

What oil did you put in it? since my rebuild they have changed the oil at 20k's 1000k's using mineral oil (running in oil black bottle from Subaru) and next will 5000k's then it will be synthetic oil.

Picked up the wagon today with the new bottom end & reco'd heads (just in time to claim the $1800 this FY =). All I can say is WOW! I'd be surprised if a brand new 3RB drove this well!

I've been following motoman's "break-in secrets" & taking it right through the rev range from the get go to make sure those rings are bedded in nicely.

Hopefully this motor will last a little longer than the last 1!
