Applying Touch Up Paint

Hi, All.

I haven't been on this forum in a while. I hope everyone has been well.

I've searched for touch-up, paint, and a number of other topics, and I can't find one, yet that surprises me. Apologies if I'm repeating something.

I have a stone chip on my front right pillar and also some scratches on the top of the right rear wheel arch. The stone chip is from a stone, and is through to bare metal. The scratches are from where I caught the seatbelt in there when I closed the door. I didn't notice that the seatbelt had twisted and stopped it from retracting.

I have some touch-up paint which I got from Subaru. I just want to ask what the best way is to appy it. Do I need to get anything to prepare it first?

no need to prepare it mate.

ive found though the deeper the chip the more work required to fill the space
and the harder it is to get a smooth finish..

i started with a tooth pick or match stick rather then the brush as the brush gave too much over paint.

slowly building up the amount of paint to fill the chip rather then sloppoing it on withthe brush

I haven't done the once over to fix all the chips on this car yet, but beforehand I will be doing a claybar, then wait 24hours for touchup paint to cure before sanding it down, and finally wax/seal.

That is the best way to do it but
Firstly clean/swab the area with Isopropyl alcohol mixed 50/50 with water to make sure there is no wax/sealant otherwise no matter how careful you are it will "fall " out
If you ever detail or machine polish your car take note of where you did your repairs, as the paint is not cured as soon as you hit it with a Rotary or an RO you will take it out
