Hey all,

Just called up Autoone in Kensington about a cabin air filter for my Lib and my gf's Impreza, they stock the Wesfil brand which is a sister company of Ryco.

05 Liberty = $29.00
06 Impreza = $33.30
Car(s): Steel Silver MY10 GT Wagon + 1985 Subaru Sherpa

Mods: (GT) HKS Panel Filter. The HKS I put in the MY10 is the same filter I took out of my MY05 GT. So yes, they do fit. Custom leather heel pad to minimise carpet wear in the drivers footwell. Slotted front rotors. (Sherpa) 14'' 6 Spoke mags, Chrome Gear Shift (sick!), Alloy Pedals (sicker!), new positive and negative battery terminals, Alpine cda-9827 H/U, JBL GT 6x9's boxed and mounted (sickest!), Kicker DS650.2 component speakers mounted in the footwells in flibreglass pods, Alpine MRP-F200 4 channel amp (4x40wRMS), Rebadged with hektik chrome eBay badges, STi stickers for more powaaaa, "leather" handbrake boot, recarpetted with grey/black car carpet from Bunnings, sick Clarke Rubber boot mat, polished and waxed.

Guys

i have just fitted about 15 odd ac filters to libertys over the last 2 weeks

the ones im fitting come out of Japan and are washable (many times) and have a moisture catcher (if i can put it that way) layed to stop that damp filter smell

and cheaper than the factory Subaru filter

will post in the for sale post soon

For what it's worth, you can get filters from AutoPro, Wesfil filters model WACF0088 for about 18 bux. It's only for the filter element which you will need to replace within the frame. Easy! This is for the BH/BE 3Gen Libertys tho.

I changed my filter out and it didn't look any better than those posted in the thread. In fact it was totally black and damp. Ugh.

Note -
You need to remove the lowest piece of trim on the centre console before you can remove the whole glovebox to get at the filter housing. There is a screw-on trim nut that you have to unscrew before popping off the whole trim. Then you can remove the glove box and the 6/7 screws holding the glovebox frame before you get to the filter housing.

I'm not sure if this will be of use to anyone, and I regret not taking any photos like some of the other guys did. In any case, if you are trying to change the filter on a 3Gen and run into problems, send me a PM and I'll talk you through it. Cheers, all!

How did you try? Via the email address in his main topic?
He's often overseas for a week at a time, so you can't always get an immediate answer.

My 08 gtb doesnt say if it has one of these or not - manual just says 'if fitted'. Replacement of one is not listed in my services so far, up to 62.5k - does that mean I dont got one? Or do I have to follow this, open it up and see?
tks

Thanks....are they not listed as std maintenance items ? Is this why there is a sign in service reception promoting the replacement (at vast expense) ?

Well, I got it done....not quite as easy as it looked, locating the pegs to release the cover, but got there in the end. At 70k kms, it was FILTHY! quite a few leaves on it as well as fine rubbish. Found a replacement at Autobarn - Wesfil WACF5231, $35, listed as fitting Prado and Mazda MPV. Worth that to get it done, and still heaps cheaper than the dealer doing it.
Thanks all.

Probably not. They would probably mark it up a lot higher since they won't get much repeat business.

Does it really need to be reusable or not? Yea im all for the resuable/washable engine air filter, but considering these get changed so rarely, $35 for autobarn isnt too bad. If one lasts me 50,000kms, then for the price of 1 blitz reusable/washable filter i can get 2 of the autobarn ones which will last me 100,000kms, by which time I will probably sell the car.
