AVN 6000 Install- 2005 Liberty 3.0RB

Postby F1Pilot » Sat May 08, 2010 6:18 pm

Hey guys,

I thought I would just title a new thread about the actual install of the Eclipse AVN6000 into my wagon. I will detail it as much as possible and pics too!
(Mods: If you want to merge this with the Amp thread, thats fine)

Parts aquired so far: AVN6000 with rear view camera.
iPC-106 iPod module
PAC SWI-ECL2

I will be doing this install myself and welcome ANY tips you guys might have for me. I will be modifying the standard fascia for the double DIN and skining it with Carbon for now. (I cant justify $350 for a small piece of plastic!). If it looks good, I may skin the whole centre console later.
I am guessing I will fabricate some double DIN mounts, or maybe be able to use some generic mounts.

As far as wiring goes, so far I am on the search for a wiring diagram for the car....any suggestions as to where to get it? I will ground the park brake wire from the HU to allow map programming and movie playing while the car is moving. (No I wont be watching it while driving :). The only wires I might have to hunt for will be the speed signal wire from the ECU and the reverese light to switch on the camera. Hopefully the steering wheel control interface is plug'n'play.

I will start the install somewhere around the 20th.

Advice people!!!!!! :)

I have a spare iPC-106 module here if you need it, no cables though.

Thanks mate, unfotuneatly I already ordered one.
By the way, the steering wheel module (which I hope is correct), was quoted to me from the distributor to be available through JB or WOW for a RRP of$250!!! For a tiny little electical adapter?!
If anyone is after one of these......ebay US. Mine was $68 delivered Aus!

My iPC 106 arrived. Problem is, it doesnt plug into the AVN6000 anywhere!!!??? WTF? It is supposed to plug straight in (or so I thought) and no plug on the back matches the plug that came with the iPC106. It has a round plug (almost S-video looking), the AVN doesnt seem to have that.

Does anyone know how to plug the iPC into the AVN6000?

Thanks,

EDIT: Just heard from Eclipse, if the AVN6000 was built for a direct plug into a particular model, ie Pajero, Mitsubishi... it might have the plug changed to suit that car. This is what has happened in my case, the HU was ordered for a Pajero. You can buy an adapter cable for the iPC for around $35.

Question for the masses. Where can I get a wiring diagram for the Liberty??? I really just want the section for all under dash wiring, but will take the whole lot if thats the only way. Subaru's is all electronic and auto electricians didnt even know. A PDF would do, but strugling to find one.

Any help is much appreciated.

Install completed today. I picked up a service manual from ebay US which is a CD with 2004/2005 Legacy written on it, however it includes ALL models, LHD RHD and even the 3.0 H6. It has every procedure in it and ALL wiring diagrams.===GOLD.

I did not buy a fascia from Japan, I could not justify the cost. Since my McIntosh is separate to my HVAC, I have just cut up the old fascia to suit the double DIN and pulled off the brushed aluminium skin, which will be replaced with Carbon fibre skin to cover the little gaps left over.

I used a Subaru plug from AERPRO for the main wires. I used the RCA outputs for the amp (I retained the McIntosh amp) and have wired in the iPC iPod controller and steering wheel controls from PAC.

I also grounded the park brake wire to allow full operation whether I'm moving or not.

The VSS (vehicle speed sensor) wire is also wired in to allow accurate GPS.

And finally the reverse wire was also hooked up to allow the HU to switch to reverse camera mode whenever reverse is selected.

I will post all the pics I took in a step by step way for any future reference, including the wiring of the HU to the McIntosh amp.

Any questions feel free to ask!

Cheers.

The install:

First I took out all the centre console, starting at the rear and moving forward. There are two 10mm bolts, take these out then unclip the handbrake cover. You do not need to pull the leather off, I did because mine was coming off and I re-glued it after. It just clips on, so you need to push it down then lever it out.
Then in throught the hole where the handrbrake cover was there are two white clips. Slide a flat blade between these and they will pop up, then you can move the centre console out of the way.

Then there are 2 phillips screws for the side trim pieces under the gear boot. The boot just clips off straight up.
Undo those then pull the side trim pieces out, 3clips on each.
From there you will see all the screws you need to undo to pull the HU out. 4 each side.

I then pulled the Mcintosh HU off the back of the fascia and basically ripped the front off it. Bit of fiddling but it all comes off. The double DIN will bolt straight back in to the bracket. From there I removed the aluminium skin from the fascia and cut out a hole big enough to fit the double din, there are some holes still left over. These get covered by the carbon fibre skin later.

More to follow.

How did you run the wires from the bumper to the unit?
