MY05 GT MacIntosh Headunit Replacement

Postby A-Drain » Fri Feb 19, 2010 10:01 pm

I have had my car from new and it has now had 4 headunits in it under warantee. This latest one has failed again in the same way as the others (pauses and plays randomly). My dealer has offerred to replace it again, but is suggesting I find out if a later model headunit will fit and have the same wiring setup. I am hoping to get a unit with an aux in or an iPod control.

Has anyone replaced their headunit with another from a later model? If so, which model? Would you have the actual model number for the unit you installed?

Any help would be muchly appreciated.

Cheers

It seems I may be able to help.
Sorry for taking so long to share what Ive learnt so far with you.
Below is my result so far.

HODMAN wrote:Hi peoples
Ive recently had to upgrade my Mcintosh HU so I got onto a reasonably priced 06-07 Mcintosh HU with the optional AUX input and Mp3 capabilities.
Almost a straight install.
There in starts my challenge. :?

The i85 plug is slightly different. (That means it wont fit) This plug only had 1x green wire from it. Even with the old unit I could not work out what this wire was for. Everything worked fine, with or without it.

The i86 plug fit perfectly. I worked out these wires controlled the Steering wheel controls with the old HU (everything else still worked fine) BUT with the new HU the Wheel controls no longer work.
All other plugs and features work fine including my Clarion ipod control with Clarion aux input. 8)

Does anyone have a cut off i85 & i86 plug they dont want for a 06-07 Mcintosh HU? :?:
I presume this will fix my i85 prob & correct the pin order of i86 OR have I got it all wrong. :?

Sorry for the long winded version, I havent learnt the shorthand yet.
Cheers

Thanks RIC for the ref photo.

PS I have yet to resolve my issue BUT I hope I can get together in the next month or so, with a Techo aquaintance to work it out.
Now that life is back to normal after purchase (i.e no money), it takes me forever to take care of technical things.
i.e Still no Steering wheel music control and no Bright (dimmer) of HU fix.

Hi, just wondering if you got anywhere with this ?
I have an iPhone 3GS with a Bury bluetooth car kit in my MY05 3.0 Spec B, calls work well but no audio from nav software on phone or music which I would like to fix, I am thinking I may need to hook it up to the car stereo somehow, although the bluetooth car kit already uses the stereo and mutes it etc, not sure what to do...

Thanks
Paul

Apparently the USDM Legacys are able to be upgraded to later HU with aux in (swapping a 2005 for an 07+ HU). No idea if it would work for us though
