Nearly everything is in here to start with.
If it's about your car, or Subaru's in general, put it in "Subaru Chat".

My 1st Lib was a 2000 RX Auto 2.5l, I was heading down mount victoria into Lithgow in a light drizzle and going left round a long bend that dropped away near the bottom...I just started sliding with the car facing the mountain side square on!!...never even felt for a second like it was going to go, I formed my own opinion that the viscous coupling to rear (its a clutch in the manuals) had un-loaded and the thing behaved like I had a trailer on the rear and just came round on me...thank Christ a semi wasn't coming either way at the time!...since then, just like a front wheel driver, every time it feels loose I stick the boot in and power out...so far so good.
I'm now on my 4th Liberty, I enjoy the pain they cause!! The 3.6l is in a world of its own.

Given that the number plate had tape applied and then later was removed, I'd say that the owner is definitely considering claiming on his/her insurance policy!

If you are going to race on a track day, take your plates off to have even a hope in hell of something nasty not happening in terms of damage.

Tek - I wasn't stating that you "test the limits" on a public road if that's what you assumed.

No not at all, I was basically saying that even on the track it is risky pushing the limits. The safest place to push the limits is on a skidpan, where it is totally flat and smooth with no trip hazards or obstacles.

I saw Petter Solberg write off a WRX a couple of years back on the skidpan at STi Docklands putting a show for the media. And he is a professional driver! "In motorsport accidents can and do happen" (Or something written like that in every disclaimer you sign before doing any kind of motorsport activity!

The Docklands skidpan is a big exception, it is stupidly small and surrounded by concrete walls!

Damn that sucks

Doesn't surprise me that it happened off the bridge its a bit bumpy there and there is lots of marbles off line from the kart track. Shows how quickly things happen though. I won't go to track days for this reason - I stick to the kart! (and there has still been some big accidents in that - loosing the outside rear wheel as you come off the bridge at Oran ain't fun.)

Be warned street racers push too hard and it will end in tears eventually...

better for it to end in tears on a track than on a public road IMO. Shame Insurance companies don't see it that way though...

+1 its only money at the end of the day when your at the track.......... on other hands on a public road you have those around which could also pay for your mistake……

so we can only assume from this comment and previous ones, you ALWAYS stick to the speed limit, have NEVER been issued a speeding fine, see no point in ever driving a performance car anywhere but on a closed private track or road and have NEVER been tempted to speed at any time while on a public road for fear of a school bus laden with children falling from the sky right in front of you??? :?:

There is more that you can assume if you choose to have an open mind. Fwiw, I drive to the conditions (road surface, particular road, weather, traffic density, vehicle health, my own energy levels, passenger comfort (if any), other). Speed limits mean little to me outside of towns.

I have ridden the vast majority of the good roads in NSW over the past 9 years and the past year or so have driven most of them south of Newcastle/Singleton. I have also had the bikes out on the track half a dozen times. Despite pushing the bikes well beyond where I would on the road I have never had a problem on the track.

Almost 2 years ago, my last bike was written off however on a road I know and enjoy pretty well doing the speed limit when I came upon some unsigned roadworks on the top of a crest consisting of a half an inch of loose gravel. The council engineer who was called out to the scene (by the attending cop) to explain why there were no signs just about ran off the road into my stricken bike. Had I been pushing past the 3 tenths I was riding at that day I could well have come out of it with worse than a twisted ankle. If I was driving and pushing hard I could well have written the car off (as many have on the Old Rd btw).

My car probably will not be driven on the track (as it is a daily driver and not a tracker) but while I am happy to have fun and drive quickly on fun roads there is no bloody way I will drive it as hard on the road as I know I could safely and consistently drive it on the track if I desired.

my comments were directed at senator, no one else, he seems convinced of the Govts brain washing about 'speed = death' plus pays HUGE $$$$$ but we dont metion that bit..sssh eh RTA/State Gov?....for what its worth, I've be 1st on scene to two fatalities, one my yr12 farewell., two girls dead, one I had known since 1st class, the other since yr7 (speed not cause)...2nd a guy in a VW beetle, never had a chance (speed not cause)....have written off my own cars, plenty of stacks, too many near misses to remember. Drive round Sydney all day every day...wanna see fxckwits at their best??, I wish I had a dash mounted camera, I'd make a fortune!!

We all have stories to tell, shoving RTA fed rhetoric down others throats serves no one but the coffers of the lazy Govt who fine us. Yes, I have lost my licence quite a few times so far...doesn't stop me enjoying what I love doing. Again, not out to promote street racing.

No true test of a "performance car" can be done on a public road.. You first posted about trying to race another member in traffic, you have also posted how you have managed to destroy brakes on your previous cars……. I am starting to see a trend here……..

Have you been to a track day?

Do you know the limits of your car?

FFS … you have written off cars, lost your licence, had many nears misses…… when will you learn mate, when its too late and cause serious injury to a innocent person or even worse kill someone….. And people wonder why our insurance keeps increasing

I see no point in buying a performance car just to spend my time playing traffic light races…….. You claim you know some roads very well due to spending many years using them for spirited drives. Good for you, count yourself lucky.

And to answer your question no speeding tickets, no lose of licence, I have owned higher powered cars and bikes…. My current car is currently a downgrade in power

And like Smythie posted, I drive to what the conditions allow for……….

Whoops seems I started a Sh*t fight.....

My point was while it is fun to have the occasional "spirited" drive. You need to pick your time & place. Even then accidents can happen. eg.

I was driving on a dirt road in rural NSW recently cracking 100 - 110km/h (good dirt road) and hit a section of road, on a bend that was regraded that day = 2 - 3 inches of sand. The car got very sideways and there was a roo halfway round the corner in the middle of the road. I was driving to the conditions and was still caught out but managed to slow down and control the slide.

Had I been going 10%, 20%, 30% harder where would it have ended?? in a tree? the roo? a rollover?
