Sqeaking Noise!

i had a few problems with this issue. As soon as i heard it, i went back to subaru, talked to the head tech at Dockland, i think his name was Michael or something and he immediately knew it was the clutch. He promptly went into the office booked me in for the next week and ordered a new SMF clutch assembly. This was all undertaken under warranty, and i have heard of this problem also being fixed out of warranty.

Best bet would be to take it to them and see what they say, because it is a common issue.

when i took it down, i explained my problem to the office guys, then they got the head mechanic i explained it to him and then i took him for a drive showed him what it was doing, then he drove the car and replicated the problem. They didnt actually look at anything in the engine bay or take anything apart.

i found that it does it when you rev the engine with the clutch in (approx 3500rpm or higher) and dump the clutch. It gives a 'chirp' sound. It also does it when you take off up a hill from standstill.

Mine only does this when reversing, every morning when I reverse out of the driveway! It sounded like it was coming from the front right wheel. I drive an auto... could it be a similar issue?

I have this in my '05 built MY06. guys at glen waverly just adjusted the clutch. Someone mentioned in another thread to check the mounting bolt where the exhaust attaches to the gearbox housing...

Having to replace the flywheel is a bit of a bugger... I just adjust my driving habit to get around it. cheaper that way

Yeah I checked the exhaust mount on the transmission that's definitely not it. Also I'm not sure what adjustment the dealer made, the only thing that can be adjusted is the clutch pedal travel. I have found the squeak can be alleviated by minimising the amont of time that the clutch is being feathered.

Phat mentioned in another thread about the bush at the top of the clutch pedal. Apparently it is a plastic bush and can dry out and squeak. Maybe that is worth looking at?

In my case I'm pretty sure it's not that bush as it's quite loud and can be heard from outside the car. I may give it a squirt of WD40 tonight anyway hehe.

It was mentioned that people often do a swap with a 2.5 impreza but my brother has the exact same issue that is mentioned with his car so not sure how effective that method would go down

I think it takes about 4-5 hours to do a clutch, so we'd need a workshop with many hoists and many people who know what they're doing hehe. As for the kit, Exedy standard clutch with single mass flywheel $815.00 via Better Brakes. That's the cheapest I could find.

Okay, I got the problem now, this squeaking sound.

When I want to launch in hill roads from stop, in Doncaster westfield parking, then squeak sound appear. Seriously annoying, and my friend said to me that what happened to your car? Something need to replace?

I thought my car won't launch because of that sound.

Then clutch, sometimes a bit heavy, sometimes light. Why is it?

I got offer from someone, Clutch Pro kit, with solid flywheel. It says will fit 2.5L engine for impreza, forester, liberty and outback.

Still searching for the part number. But can DMF be swap with this Clutch Pro SMF? I will change it on 80-90K Km's. Need to hold on since I just got an accident.

This kit costs me 580 bucks, and I can pick up. Will keep it for a moment.

If someone know the part number for clutch pro kit, please post it here.

The problem is your dual mass flywheel. Convert to a solid one if the noise annoys you. I have had the noise for months it only happens under certain conditions so I am putting up with it until my clutch is worn out.

This Clutch Kit is to replace the factory-fitted Dual-Mass Flywheel. There is the slight chance of some gear noise when doing this conversion otherwise I would recommend to retain the Dual-Mass Flywheel & replace it.

I got quoted for the same kit as you have Naldo. Theoretically the SMF will not be as smooth to engage than the DMF, but in reality all the feedback I have read is that the SMF is so much more enjoyable to drive with *because* it has a more defined friction point. If SMF was really so bad Subaru would be using DMF across their whole range now, which is not the case.

They didn't specify in the quote if a new pilot bearing is included, but if it isn't then it's well worthwhile the extra $15 or so to have it replaced at the same time.
