Wedge parker globes

Postby Topdog » Thu Dec 10, 2009 7:18 pm

Hi all,
Here's a little problem that's been bugging me the last few months. I swapped out my low beam globes to the Narva ultra blues. My manual stated that the parkers were the wedge style globe (and the pack I bought came with a pair of wedge style globes). Upon pulling out the headlight to get to the parkers I found that they weren't wedge style, but instead the larger push and twist type. Just wondering if there's any sort of adapter available to fit the blue wedges as I can't find a large enough regular globe in the blue :?

Facelift gen3 has a bayonet globe, you'll have to get a specific globe to suit.

Narva make an ultra white/blue globe in the bayonet style. Come as pairs in blister pack around $10.00 or less.

They're still yellow - any incandescent globe is yellow, regardless of the glass coating :P

It's in your head. How can there be yellow when the glass is tinted blue? It's not physically possible.

Because the filament is yellow to begin with, the blue glass is just there to reduce the amount of non-blue light emitted. It still gets through.

It's barely a blue tint as well. No way it's going to stop the yellow from permeating through. Piaa has globes which are white/purple, but they are so heavily tinted the light output barely registers so there's a price to pay for white light when it comes to filaments.

The size of the parker globe in my car is bigger than the blue ones narva make in that style. It's really bizzare :?

I had some LED ones made up for a friend of mine some time last year - I think they were about $12 each if you're interested, I can find out more.

i tried LED's and they really aren't bright enough. You'd need some super duper bright ones to get the same brightness as an incandescent.

That's because you just haven't found the right ones. :P The 5 and 9-SMD LED wedges are the brightest LED's available that will fit the T10 parker openings on the Liberty.

At $15 - $20 a pair, they're pretty cheap (made in China), and they are near the 6000K colour range, so will match nicely with 6000K HID's. However the only problem is that they burn so brightly and intensely, they tend to burn out quicker, some quicker than others. I've seen some last 8 months, while others only 1 month. So it's hit and miss really. But if you're a perfectionist and want to match your HID's both in colour and intensity, these are a decent cheap option. Check with Leo (hks_180) if you're in Sydney, or Clarence (Tangcla) if you're in Melbourne.

But for those who can't be fussed fiddling with the parkers every few months (looking at you D_Liberty :D ), the other more expensive option are the $70+ from Liberal in Japan. I had a peek at Danny's one (D_Liberty), and they look schmick! How long they will last is the million dollar question, but they are made of 3 small LED's with a unique ring at the tip to distribute light very evenly, so they may not suffer the same heat issue as the 5/9-SMD LED.

Well that's what I found with mine. Love to replace the yellowish parker with a white one :(
