Install completed.

Parts included in photo 1 (1B harness shown). Note bundle of red wire which needs to be joined to the blue wire on the main module, if you wish to hook up the reverse gear override.

Notes:

1. Zip tie the accelerator pedal harness out of the way, otherwise it may rub on the sharp metal edges of the pedal mount and also against the brake pedal arm.

2. I cut off the OBD connector on the supplied harness, and connected the red wire into this 7.5A constant 12V source in the fuse box. Obviously tap into the side of the fuse which is protected by the fuse, so that if the ETC shorts out you are protected by the fuse. Ground is just via an eye terminal onto the fuse box mounting bolt.

3. Behind the kick panel in the top 20 pin connector (its length is parallel with the ground), pin #16 (brown/yellow) is the 12V wire which is hot when you are in reverse gear. This is connected to the reverse override wire on the ETC harness. This wiring colour is relevant to MY04 but likely many later models, however as always please check with a multimeter first.

4. Zip tie and tape around the main module adds stress relief for the 3 wires which are simply soldered to the PCB inside the casing. Also it allowed me to zip tie the module through that zip tie, to a factory harness to stop it moving around.

5. All done :)

Hehe George it's only coz I was anal and wanted everything tucked away and neat. You can always do a 15min ghetto install with tape and zip ties =) no other tools needed hehe.

Hey Jim, wiring isn't my strong point. I understand shots 1 and 2 and I'm getting a rough idea of shot 3 but I'm completely confused with shot 4. :? :? Also, have you gained any power advantage with this device?

No worries man you gotta start somewhere I'm happy to answer any Qs you may have :)

Step 3, you basically need to splice the reverse gear override wire from the ETC harness, into the reverse 12V wire which is in the factory harness that I circled. You do this by stripping back some insulation behind the factory connector, then twist the ETC wire through the factory wire, solder and tape it back up.

Step 4, I just put a zip tie around the whole module, then taped over the zip tie to keep it in place. The tape also holds the 3 wires coming out of the module against the module, so that that they are less likely to be accidentally pulled out of their solder joints. (Hence the term, strain relief).

I then used another zip tie, looped it through that zip tie, and used that to secure the module against something under the dash (like a factory harness or something), so that it's not loosely floating around under the dash.

No power gains, don't think that would be physically possible. The accelerator feels livelier and much mor responsive from off idle up to around 50% throttle.

Just took car for spin up through dandenong mountains, SP3 is a good setting for; it I didn't need to change down from 4th except for tighter corners. I had it on SP7 at one stage and totally fried the clutch whilst trying to manouvre in a carpark which was not nice!

TEK, That's one of the most comprehensive review I have ever read for our ETC. The way you hardwire the power and the pictures being shown are top notch!!! 8)

What part of the OBD connector did you cut off?

I cut the whole OBD connector off (there are only 2 wires going into it as per the first photo).

Of course I left about 3-4" of wire in the connector so that if I needed to I can always solder the pair of wires back up so that the ETC can be used normally via straight plug-in.

Hehe sorry I will keep you mind next time Tangles, before fitting any new toys I buy ;).

The way in which I have installed it would prevent quickly transferring it to another car anyway, the cables are routed through the back of the bottom DIN pocket, zip tied through factory looms etc.
