4 x19 inch wheels, but whats your spare

Postby LOlsson » Mon Nov 30, 2009 7:13 am

Just out of interest, I really would like 19's , maybe 20's for my car but do i have to change the spare wheel as well. My lib is mainly used for long trips, so if i get a flat and have to use the spare it could be hundreds of km's before I could get the 19 or 20 back on. Or is there nothing to worry about. Thanks

As long as your overall rolling radius (and/or diameter) is the same, then there isn't too much to worry about. What size tyres are on your car now? Then you can match the rolling radius.

I have 18's on my car which originally came with 17s - spare/oem is tyre size 215/45/17 and new tyres are 225/40/18.
OEM radius = 312.42 mm
New radius = 318.51 mm

So for 6mm, I wouldn't worry too much for a couple of hundred kms, but wouldn't do it for thousands.... so yeah, tell us your OEM tyre and can recommend tyre sizes that would work

Cool, I want to run the tallest rubber i can on my 19's to keep the ride smooth and fill the gards. So it looks like 5 mags it is. Thanks

I see you have an MY10 GT so presuming from the website:
225/45 R18 91W

Generally it is suggested not to go greater than 3% or you speedo will be out anyway - in this case 3% is acceptable.

a 245/35/20 will give you a 2.92% increase, so this would actually be quite a good size if you went 20's... 245/35 should still give OK ride comfort, as well as fill the guards nicely ;)
