Yeah but when you live up a mass dirt driveway, with 3 acres of garden/trees that backs onto hundreds of km of bushland, and the only place to park is UNDER a tree because there is vintage cars parked in the carport, you get pretty used to washing your car daily to get rid of bird poo and sap anyway (im not joking. I wash my car daily )

I try to park under trees/shade sails. But honestly, today the temp was 44 here in Mildura, and honestly there isnt a whole heap that can be done

My external temp on the car when I got into yesterday was 19. I almost had to put the heater on until I got out into the sun.

I've personally got window shades for both front AND back. Plus some meshies for the side windows. Leave the sunroof cracked open about 5mm to let the hot air escape (with the sliding cover still closed) and the heat is much more bearable

I wind the windows up, close the sunroof (but pull the inside cover closed), lock the doors and leave the car where ever I parked it. When I get back, I get in, turn the key on, wind the windows down (leave the sunroof and inner cover closed as I hate the sun on my face), close the driver's door and drive away without any need to worry about the leather seats, steering wheel or gear knob being hot. Even in 40+ degree celsius days.

Yes, my car's tinted. No it's not particularly dark. I don't get it.

Mate, if you think he cant afford leather seats and momo gear knobs you are sadly mistaken, the 3.0R-B comes standard with full leather interior, that includes the steering wheel, and although he may not have a momo gear knob, the 3.0R-B also comes with a leather gear knob. Honestly, i dont kno what you are complainin about with the temperature, all you have to do is wind down two windows, put the climate control on auto set to 18 and drive off, or just wait a minute because you will be good to go as the car would have cooled down enough, maybe thats too long for you tho.

For me, it's not so much that I can't wait that long, rather I'd like to prevent my car interior from being damaged form the excessive heat. Australia has the highest UV of all countries, and that coupled with extreme temperature is enough to make me worry.

I know that car interiors have been tested to extreme temps blah blah blah. But these are still vinyls, plastics and leather we're talking about, and I'd rather go a little bit out of my way to ensure the longevity and condition of my car interior.

+1. All the expansion and contraction leads to shrinking of interior trims, so I do my best to minimise it where I can since I keep my cars for a long time.

I've seen something that basically clips onto the edge of the window glass, then you close your window until the device fits flush up against the top. It has a solar panel and centrifugal fan in it which acts as an exhaust fan.

Basically meant to be for when you want to play pokies and you can't find a babysitter.... I mean when you want to leave your dog in the car and so it doesn't escape lol.

Jaycar and SuperCheap used to sell them. I can't find them on either website any more, but there's plenty of eBay listings for around $20.

Boys, I don't know, maybe I've had a slightly more seasoned car history but I haven't really had a problem.


When I say 'more seasoned', nothing compares to an 81 XD falcon with vinyl seats and a black vinyl steering wheel (still don't know what they were thinking with that one) and 4 / 80 air conditioning (manually operated)*.

Second to this was the early 90's hilux that also had vinyl seats and steering wheel but only 2 / 80 air conditioning* and was driven by a chain smoker before me, there were times that I thought the dash had a pack-a-day habit with the smell coming from it.


Anyways, where was I going with this, yer right, Sweet Lady Liberty is pretty cool lady after 5 minutes, by the time the GPS has initialised, song is picked and chewing gum is in the mouth, the car is too good.

I do the sock thing too, I use one of those ipod socks (that look like I stole a baby's booty) and I point the passenger vent on the centre console down at the gear stick, you can take the sock off after about 2 minutes.

* - 4/80 and 2/80 referred to the number of windows opened followed by the speed you are doing...manually operated meant I had to open each one before starting the car (I was a student and I got 11 months rego on a car that I paid $700 for)
