whats this?
i'm keen for $500 for a tune. or copy the maps a great idea

Mystique wrote:because it's $300, not $500.

care to point out a dyno tuner who has achieved gains of more than 30kw (presuming they charge a grand for the work and the baseline was around 120kw) from a H6 just on a tune? I'd be excited to hear of one who has. I'd be even more excited to hear of one who has and can provide assurance that they aren't tuning too far and reducing longevity of the engine.vaccine wrote:sorry, but nearlly $500 for an extra 15-20kw is a joke and a rip.
why doesnt every chip in and get 1 tune, then just copy it to the other cars.
tatrix cable and a laptop is all you need with free software.
only tables that would need copying would be fuel/timing/throttle maps.![]()
supprised no one has posted it up on here yet.
better yet, when my mate reggie comes down with his 06 spec-b in a few weeks, we can get it tuned and then i can rip the map and post up for people to have a look at. anyone wanna chip in??
vinnie also doesnt take a whole day to tune car, he will have a map he has made and just flash it on.
stick car on dyno and then check for knock which there shouldnt be as he tunes are way concervative.

Sorry, i dont recall mentioning a 30kw gain, nor a $1000 tune.smythie wrote:care to point out a dyno tuner who has achieved gains of more than 30kw (presuming they charge a grand for the work and the baseline was around 120kw) from a H6 just on a tune? I'd be excited to hear of one who has.
dude, RomRaider is an openSource FREE software program.smythie wrote:On the topic of copying tunes from one car to another - there's a few reasons why our cars are tuned the way they are from the factory: to account for production tolerances, differences in environments, differences in the way the vehicles are going to be driven, different fuels. Even just accounting for production tolerances there can be and often is significant differences between custom tunes for seemingly identical vehicles.
Then there's the software piracy analogy....

i was saying that paying $500 for 15-20kw was way steep for the gain. $350 is almost justifiable.dude, RomRaider is an openSource FREE software program.smythie wrote:On the topic of copying tunes from one car to another - there's a few reasons why our cars are tuned the way they are from the factory: to account for production tolerances, differences in environments, differences in the way the vehicles are going to be driven, different fuels. a 3RB in QLD, NSW and VIC all have the same tunes on them from factory.. sorry
subaru do not make individual custom tunes for each 3RB they bring out.

No you didn't. But you complained about paying $500 for a 15-20kw gain. Other than running down to Docklands NO ONE in Australia offers a dyno tune for even a H6 (which should apparently involve less parameters to adjust than the turbos) for less than $1000. If 15-20kw is not good enough value for money at $500 then no less than 30kw should be good enough for a 1 grand outlay. As I said, point me towards a tuner who can safely get over 30kw from a H6 using a custom tune with no other mods for a typical tuner's outlay of around $1k and I'll be one of the first to drive my car there.vaccine wrote:Sorry, i dont recall mentioning a 30kw gain, nor a $1000 tune.smythie wrote:care to point out a dyno tuner who has achieved gains of more than 30kw (presuming they charge a grand for the work and the baseline was around 120kw) from a H6 just on a tune? [/quote]See Hotwire's comment. You are paying the tuner to do the work for you and reprogram the computer in your car. Each tuner has their own way of doing things and the money you pay them is mostly for the dyno time. You are NOT paying them for the rights to their IP. If you were, you'd be paying quite a bit more.vaccine wrote:dude, RomRaider is an openSource FREE software program.smythie wrote:On the topic of copying tunes from one car to another - there's a few reasons why our cars are tuned the way they are from the factory: to account for production tolerances, differences in environments, differences in the way the vehicles are going to be driven, different fuels.
