Shift Knob & Reverse Selector

Shift Knob & Reverse Selector

Postby peadya100 » Tue Feb 09, 2016 12:34 pm

Hi Guys,
I've had a request to look into shift knobs for the 6 speed that allow for the reverse selector, and a reverse selector itself.

Apparently the other brands are very expensive due to the poor exchange rate.

I'm happy to look into this for members, but don't own a manual. So if there's a local member that is willing to lend their car for me to take a few measurements and test fitting, id be incredibly grateful and would of course reward you for your troubles :D

Sounds like a project I might like to be in.
I have a spare 6MT gear knob from an MY05 Spec B
I will sketch it for you and PM you the pretty picture.

You can contact me when ready for a test fitting?
Cheers!

That would be great!
Does the pre facelift use the same diameter reverse selector?
Without seeing one of these in person, im assuming the gear knob needs to have a recess to allow for the selector to go up inside it when pulling up on it?

Yes, that's what makes them (relatively) uncommon.

I love the work that WC latheworks do, but it's SUPER expensive due to exchange rates.

Pre facelift 6 speed is the same shifter, pre facelift 5 speed doesn't have a reverse lockout.

I have a post facelift knob presently on my prefacelift.
The knob dimensions are the same.

Note that legal requirements state you must have a shift pattern - it can be a sticker, but you have to have one.

A 6 speed pattern with text that matches the USA spec.b logo could look nice. Thanks for investigating this Adam :)

Yep already onto that Matthew.
Will be going for stickers with each knob.. don't like the look of engraved ones

Hi Adam,

Just thinking, is there a market for a gear knob for the auto guys done out of the same material as the manual guys?

Dont get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the stock one, but for those who want to spice up their interior, could there be an option for those who have an auto and want something different but similar to the manual fellas?
Cheers
Shav

I can definitely look into it Shav.
What did you have in mind?
Not sure anodized is the right finish for gear knows as it scratches. So I may need to look at painting or other finishes.

Im up for suggestions really. Im not sure what I'd be interested in to be honest. But it would need to be stylish and not tacky in any way. Too much rice out there as it is.

Here are some potentials but not sure. Of course it would need to go to some form of vote so as long as something attractive can be done Im all for it.

I'm not sure how easy it'll be to make 2 piece items. I have no experience with it. So I was looking to make billet items.

I love leather gear knobs, but wouldn't know where to start in organising that. I imagine it's be pricey too!

Just a thought?
Are you planning a gear knob only, or a new matching set of Gear Knob and Lift Selector?
