VIC: See an MG Club Autokhana - Sunday Oct-15

Postby Ric » Wed Oct 11, 2006 8:52 am

I'm running the MGA in an MG club competition this sunday at the Police Driver training centre in Attwood.
This is on Mickleham Road, about 5 minutes north of the Mickleham Road turnoff on the Tullamarine Freeway.

This is an Autokhana. It's a bit like a Motorkhana (which is first gear only, around very tight patterns), but an Autokhana is higher speed, so you have to wear a helmet, although you can compete with a CAMS "non-speed" licence.

I'm undecided whether to run the the Liberty also. The Asphalt motorkhana a couple of weeks ago made a mess of my tyres

Anyway, if you want to see a group of car enthusiasts having fun with their cars, drop in for a look, and say hi.

Details are at: http://www.mgcc.com.au/mgcc/events/attwood.shtml

I'll be in the black MGA coupe:

I'm starting to think I will run the Liberty also on Sunday.
Screw the tyres, it's too much fun. ;)
(I'll try to get someone to videotape the 3RB in action.)

If you didn't follow the link above, here's what we'll have to do:

Im sure the Lib would do extremely well. The only thing that i think would slow it down is the longer wheel base although you did quite well on grass a few weeks ago........

Best of luck though.

PS Just make sure the tractor is around again to pull you out like last time....

Well today didn't go exactly to plan.

They wouldn't let me run the Liberty, because I didn't have a fire exnitguisher securely mounted in it. I had a spare in the MG, but no way I could attach it into the Liberty without drilling into the panels. So I withdrew my entry and just ran the MGA.

My first two runs were pretty good, and my second run at "course 2" was also pretty good, but on the final run on "course 1" I could smell oil strongly as I was coming round the last corner. I overshot the finish garage slightly, then stalled the engine reversin off the traffic cone I squashed. Couldn't get it started again, and the starter could only slowly turn the engine over. It looks like something has seized in the engine :(
I had to run down to a local Mobil, hire a trailer, and tow the car back to my mechanic. Will find out what really happened in a couple of days.
I have some videos of the runs I did do. Should have them online in a couple of days :)

bummer mate, hope it's nothing too serioius with the old girl.

Shame about not being able to run the liberty. I guess though these rules are put there to make it safe and for the organisers to cover their arses.

It's already got a front swaybar. That's normal for an MG ;)
