A Bit of a Drive - Saturday January 10

I need to get out of Sydney this weekend before I go nuts, so I'm going for a drive.

At this stage the rough route will be Sydney to Moss Vale, across to Taralga, up to Oberon, through Jenolan Caves and back to Sydney via Bells. I haven't done the calculations yet, but I would estimate it to be somewhere around the 600K mark. A day out for a GT with some nice roads thrown in.

So far I have a maybe from a B4 and a 350Z.

If you are interested let me know and perhaps PM me your mobile number.

Roddez.

Okay, thanks to our friends from Google, I have the full details.

Depart Sydney and head down to Goulbourn. I was going to take the Wombeyan Caves Road but local knowledge has suggested that this isn't a good idea. So, from Goulbourn we turn north to Taralga and Oberon.

From Oberon the back road down into Jenolan Caves and then the scary road out of there to Hartley. Then over to Bell, down Bells line and into Sydney.

From the looks of the map, there may be some dirt roads on this trip, but if memory serves they are in pretty good nick.

Total distance 511Km's. There are numerous places to divert should the roads be too bad, the driving to boring or it all just gets too much.

I live in the lower North shore and I will probably leave around 7:30 - 8:00. We can also arange pickups along the way if anyone chooses in on this crazy trip.

Update:

Link on Google maps of the route.

Well it was just me and Roddez on this one today as everyone else bailed on him. He led most of the way (Bells Line Rd aside) setting a good police friendly pace all day.

Experienced a couple of new roads today: Goulburn-Taralga-Black Springs-Oberon and Hartley Vale-Lithgow. And re-experienced familiar roads for the first time in the Lib

A great drive on some good fun roads (though I won't go into my experience on the Bells Line)

Thanks again Roddez. Hopefully more of the other slackers can turn up in future

Tony is right, it was a great drive with some nice roads.

We timed the run through Jenolan Caves very well, getting there about 5 minutes before the road back up opened again.

I think that there should be a rule about Bells Line, you must be a purist to drive the road.

It would be great to get some more blokes on future trips.

It would be great to have a part of the forum to post road trip routes (link from google) and feedback about the route. Ric, any ideas?

Now, where is the next drive and when is it going to happen?

have been caught there in a mother of a hailstorm before on the bike. Had a cold for 2 weeks. yesterday's frustration stemmed from the 100 zone just east of Bell now being 80 and of course the usual weekend mobile chicanes
