shipping / status

Postby scottmcphee » Tue Aug 20, 2013 1:22 am

I'm planning on shipping everything Wednesday, and confirming addresses before I ship. READ THIS POST.

How does it go?

All packages go the same class of Canada postal service, Small Packet International Air. Keep your eyes on the mailbox is how it will arrive.
More information about this service here http://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/PGsmpack-e.asp
The address must be postal serviceable address for delivery. Keep that in mind when I'm confirming addresses.

What happens next?

I will soon be PM'ing each parcel recipient (bold and underlined on PAID wall), showing an address EXACTLY as it will appear on the shipping label. If you see something wrong in the PM with what I am showing you, now would be a good time to correct it!

WAIT for me to PM you first, over the next day or two.

Then what do I do?

If you're a solo shipment, RSVP to my PM is optional to confirm address.
If I don't hear back with any address corrections, that's where I will be sending it.

If you want to change the address to a place of business, or where you feel more assured or reliable receipt of the package is possible... you're free to tell me where you want it to go.

Multi-people groupings (where more than one person's stuff is being sent in one envelope), RSVP from the ring leader is mandatory. I will not ship combined packages until I get a confirmation PM back from the addressee that the address shown in my PM is correct.

Again, WAIT for me to PM you first, over the next day or two.

How long will it take?

Delivery times standards are documented here http://www.canadapost.ca/tools/pg/manual/pgservstds-e.asp#1963481 (see section 5.3)
Cutting to the point, they say it takes 6 to 10 business days (Mon-Fri. minus holidays).
That's "2 weeks" but I find this often stretches a few days more.

Tracking?

Not for this class of service. It would cost each parcel another $35 or so just for tracking comfort, but would not speed up delivery.
If items don't arrive I always make things right. Do not worry about that.

Cheers,
Scott

ONE OTHER THING

Any importing charges are your own. This includes duty, VAT, ... what have you.

To help with this, in the past I've marked low value (CAD$1) on the package, indicated "gift", and do not include any invoice related paperwork inside. Just the User Manual.

I propose doing similar for this group buy shipping. Unless you're morally opposed to me sending you "worthless" gifts... PM me and I've fix yours right up!

Cheers

Luckily in Australia we don't pay duties till the item is worth over $1000AUD. Post usually covers any customs fees etc.

Every package recipient has been PM'd with a mailing address showing where it will be sent. Check it.

There are 5 recipients that are multi-party, so I need confirmation back from those before shipping.
These are identified on the paid wall post, here: http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?f=74&t=23278&start=45#p334951

One thing, I didn't get around to Australianifying the usage instructions so it's all worded such that tipping the stalk "up" means to signal right. I've been told by the land of reverse water flow in the toilet, that Subaru has put the stalk on the opposite side of the wheel as we do here in Canada.

So some fixin' is needed to the instructions. Sorry in advance, but I kinda think you guys might be used to this kind of thing:

I usually say both, like "up (right)"... so you can just cross out the up and leave (right).

Or you can pencil over up and write "down", and vise versa.

Where I've written only "up" it's best if you cross that out and either "down" or "right", and vise versa.
To protect your sanity.

...

Or you can just hold the instructions up to the mirror and read them that way, or cross your eyes, or hold the paper up to the light and read it from the wong side... Whatever floats your boat!

Next time I re-write the instructions out I will "worldify" them using only "left" and "right" where applicable and leave it up to the user to determine if that's up or down for their car. Live and learn.

Damn that's fast. Looking forward to mine!

16 days from start to delivered on a group buy. Surely that's a record...
