MY08 3.0RB Tune needed for Ping

Hi,

This is my first post to this site. I have a MY08 3.0RB Liberty that I love... except for the ping. The car has pinged under certain load conditions since it was new. I always use 98RON fuel, mostly Caltex. I even tried the Shell 100RON fuel when it was available without much change to the ping. I have taken the car back to Subaru many times without any great success. I even got a 3rd party mechanic to produce a report indicating that the pinging will cause long term damage etc, which finally convinced Subaru to remove the engine for closer inspection. They tweaked a few things which improved the pinging a bit, but it still exists under some loads, which I find annoying, as I'm now constantly listening for it rather than enjoying the fantastic stereo!

I think I've come to the end of the line with the Subaru mechanics and was considering a) trading the car on the new model, or b) getting a custom tune to remove the ping. Option a) will see me out of pocket for considerable $$ and I'm not that fussed on the new shape. Option b) is my preferred option as I still think this is an ECU mapping problem.

Can anyone please help with ideas? Does anyone know:

1. Is anyone successfully tuning the 3.0 in Brisbane? Unlike many people getting tunes, copius amounts of extra power is not my goal, although would be a welcome by-product. My goal is eliminating all ping.
2. Peoples view on having the tune carried out remotely? Xtreme Racing Tuning in Barbados appear to be having success with this engine, based on blogs on this site.
3. Can the ECU be "wound back" to factory conditions if I decide to sell in the future?
