Newby from Syd

Howdy all,

Just another newby here from Western Sydney. I currently own a 01 Magna VR-X which has served my bloody well, but it’s about time to move on.

So I’ve known for years that my next car was going to be a Liberty GT, and with that day approaching quickly I’ve started to do some further research… and thus, here I am.

I’ve tested a few 04-05 GT’s over the past few months and still haven’t really made my mind up on which transmission to go for. I enjoy the manual’s a lot, and perceived them to be much quicker off the line. The auto though was great too and would suit my daily traffic grinds a lot better, and the triptronic had a good feel – however it seemed quite sluggish off the mark.

This then led me to look into mod’s and how they could help me decide. Looking into the MRT XB kit I thought I had found a winner, albeit expensive. That is until I did some more reading and well, decided to look elsewhere.

So here’s my new short term plan:

Purchase a Liberty GT 04-05 model w/ prem pack, auto, stock, with ~50,000k’s on the clock.
Have pulse racing do a tune, CAI, and front and rear sway bars.
Fit Bridgestone Adrenaline tyres.
Smile?

Long term plans:

Downpipe + Intercooler + PXE-H650 (for macintosh audio upgrade?) + Sound deadening.

I’ve done the whole loud exhaust + lowered thing before and don’t want to go there again, so I’m going to try and avoid going down that path as much as I can… I just hope it doesn’t impact my gains too much.

Anyway, I think that’s enough ranting.

Thanks for having me! :alcoholic:

Cheers.
John.

Welcome.

I'm sure swingn and others will be able to correct or otherwise but stalling up the auto is actually the quickest way to get the things off the line. Probably quicker than the manual and definitely easier on the mechanicals IMO.

Now this has got my attention. What exactly do you mean by stalling up the auto? :P

Rouse Hill isn't exactly South West. You're closer to Moggy and Fangin_RX.

Re: stalling up - just the standard hard take off procedure for cars with automatic (torque converter) gearboxes. Stand on the brake pedal, put it in drive, prod the throttle to build up the revs and let go of the brake pedal and tromp the throttle when you're happy you have enough revs up. Give it a few goes to work out what is best for you and your car. I suggest starting low

Na, just a Westy here.

Cheer's mate for the explanation. So doing that type of start isn't too hard on the car at all (assuming you don't rev ridiculously high)? As I'm probably leaning towards an auto gt at this point.

Thanks again.

lots of high rev stalls might be bad for the 'box in the long run. A bit of mechanical sympathy will let you know where to stop I think
