Just an intro - finally got my dream company car. Liberty GT Spec B. Got a good boss who effectively says the cars mine so mods not an issue.

Name: Andy
Ride: Liberty GT Spec B Sedan
Location:Fremantle, WA
Mod: Nothing yet except the radar detector
Plans: Pads - see questions.
Occupation: Asset Manager
Year of birth: 1969
Interest: Cars and driving
Previous Rides: Fort Escort with Twin Cam cosworth heads, bunch of crap ones, worked Liberty 1995 2.2i Sedan AWD, this one.

Noted everyone's "brake shudder" comments. 1st experienced mild version yesterday on a 100 klm+ hard brake. Mild though - might have been ABS (never had ABS car before). Had huge shudder issues with DBA rotors on previous Subi and hate DBA because of it. Not in the mood to spend cash on mods (yet!) so is the rotor & OEM pad issue that bad? Or is it occasional/rare? Only 14,000 Klm on the car.

Apart from that its a joy and I love it. Best pre mid life crisis toy ;)

Would love to catch up with you all one day in WA. Nothing better than modded Subis.

I also can recommend one of the best installers for any audio/alarm/etc mods. The consummate professional.

Cheers

Welcome Andy. You have come to right place mate. The stock brakes are not that bad from new. Most likely you got some ABS shudder I reckon but you have to brake pretty hard to activate it. Good that you can mod your Lib as there are several relatively cheap and easy mods you can do to greatly improve it.

Suggest you start with front and rear sway bars then move to intake / zorst and i/c.

Post us up some pics as well when you get a chance. We try to get together for a drink every month or so and usually have an organized cruise every couple of months in conjunction with perth-wrx or rsliberty crews.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to the odd "drive" and meet n greet.

Did I read "Sti" - sniff ;) I soooooooooooo wanted one but just not enough influence on the boss.

"Suggest you start with front and rear sway bars then move to intake / zorst and i/c."

Sways - which brand? (Edit - should read "whiteline" - doh)

Zorst? ??

i/c - I'm assuming intercooler?

Personally I was thinking front strut support. Do they still have the brake/master cylinder fire wall flex issues as in the past?

Zorst? ?? turbo back exhaust or catback at least - good supplier here for this..ie Phat dump pipe, centre pipe, etc

i/c - I'm assuming intercooler? Yep

Front strut bar is a nice mod in tandem with other suspension mods. Brake stopper (Cusco or similar is not a bad mod either) I have the cusco one.

Welcome!!

Great to have another WA Spec B online!

Would be great to see some pics!

Will add a "+ 1" to Dave's suggested mod list...

Sways - Whiteline sways are readily available, well priced and a massive improvement over stock! Definitely the way to go!

Exhaust/Zorst - A few options available, most are not cheap due to the dual exit setup on the Gen4's but I personally have an X-Force 3" turbo-back exhaust to HiTech quad tip mufflers which I am very happy with!

i/c or intercooler - I have not upgraded mine yet, as the factory unit is plenty good enough for the very mild performance mods I have, but down the track it will definitely be on the cards... There are a few options(bolt on), AVO, Hyperflow and I believe Processwest will have one available soon as well... all have varying results so best to do your research and then go with whichever is cheapest! ;)

Strut braces in my opinion are over-rated and swaybars are a better investment, that said I will hopefully be getting some in at some stage!

In addition to the sways, I would suggest jumping on board the TEIN springs group buy currently running... they are a great spring and good value at the GB price!! These in combination with the swaybars will give a massive improvement to the stock handling!

In regards to braking, I personally have decided to upgrade the factory brake package to the STi Brembo's front and rear on my Spec B although I don't think the original stuff is "that bad"!

Look, in the remaining warranty period not much excepting some suspension/brake mods. I'm happy as with power ATM and I've never had a NEW car so I'm going to enjoy the warranty while it lasts. Unless anyone wants to give comments on mods n warranty. With my last Subi - Subaru were complete arses with warranty and mods. So I am thinking strut bar, sway bars, etc and hopefully a Brembo brake upgrade (depends on girl and bank account). Toying with Subi STI short shift as well.

In the end I'm searching for a HSV / Porche scaring Liberty. I had my last 95 one from 96 to today. I hold onto them so I have time. Id expect it would include a new tune, exZorst, IC. I always wanted 250 Kw :) - is that possible with no new turbo? I guess new clutch as the current one feels like the typical piss weak Subi clutch. Save the gearbox - let the clutch disintegrate ;)

All in all though - I want a sleeper. Been through my "look at me" sounding exhausts, large scale ICE etc.

In the immediate short term - tint. That 1/2 done look has got to go. Better radar - got my first flash in a decade last week.

Going to take some photos for you lot. Thanks for the replies. Feel like one of the group already.

Good stuff mate... Sleeper look is always win!

250Kw at the wheels/hubs is probably not realistic on the stock turbo... at the engine may be a possibility though!?

You can go reasonably hard with the clutch I would think as the 6 speed gearboxes will take just about anything you can throw at them!... finally!

Warranty should be fairly ok with most minor mods, but if Subaru think they can prove your mods caused the problem, they will obviously fight you for it!

I have an exhaust/filter on mine(+ a few other bits) and they had no issues fixing up a minor oil leak issue for me under warranty!? but if I had gone to them saying that my bumper was melted(it is) they would have turned around and said no deal, as it was clearly caused by the aftermarket exhaust(if you could call it that) that was fitted by the previous owner!

It probably also depends on which dealer you go to... you can always contact them and ask if you are worried, but they are usually fairly reasonable in my experience!

It's funny you know, I didn't want white BUT the cost was SO good for that available one. 6 speed man was the seller.

Now that I have it - its really growing on me. Much cooler interior temps than my BRG 1995 one.

Can anyone here give me ideas on tint levels to there fronts v rears. I was adised that the "tint glass" has NO UV protection hence all round tint still required.

My last one was 'illegal' dark so I have no issue with a little "too dark". I want to achieve an "even" look though BUT don't want to be chasing a yellow licky.

35% is the limit here in WA and you will not be able to match the fronts with the rears because of the crazy colour Suby use on the rear privacy glass. I had mine done at Tint-A-Car Morely and they call it Midnight Express.

<3 the white... Was my original colour of choice, but, same as you, the deal I got on the black one was too good to pass up!

+ 1 for Tint-A-Car Morley, had my old WRX tinted there and was happy with the result!

Also recommend Trent from TKO Tinting in Vic Park(Albany Hwy), does a great job as well, and is probably the best bet in terms of matching the front to the rears as he does a huge range of different tints!
