New 3.0r-b owner saying hi

Postby wixy » Sat May 02, 2009 6:03 pm

Just thought i'd say hi and post a pic of my new ride, a 2005 Liberty 3.0r-b. Hoping to get a lot of good info and advice from here!

Coming from a nissan 180sx, the liberty is just such a fantastic car to drive, smooth and quiet yet with a good amount of go and great handling. Gotta love the stereo and all the gadgets too.

I paid $23k, which I was pretty happy with considering the car is in great nick and has 50,000km's, four near new tyres, a full service history and a year of extended warranty left. Mid last year I was considering liberty b4's with 100,000km's for around $20k, so I'm glad I waited. Hate to think what i'm gonna get now for the 180sx though...:(

In terms of mods, i've been reading about the v-tune on this forum so i plan on getting that done.

Just wondering what other basic low cost mods are worth pursuing?

Welcome to the forums Wixy and glad to see you take at that BARGAIN you were "humming & harring" about recently. You got it at a GREAT price all right !

YES, the Vin Tune is well worth it and I would be considering things like the Whiteline Sway Bars or the PHAT mufflers. Have a peek in the for sale section for some ideas !

So, another H6 forum member and another for TEAM Silver ! Go TeaM

What a bargain! Was that 1 in melbourne for sale privatly? I too just bought a 3.0R B and went to melbourne to look at 2 libertys, after i saw the first one (the one i bought) i didnt bother going to see the second one becuase i was so much in love haha. This seems very familiar, could have been the second one i organized to see..because it was $23K too...

Thanks for the welcome guys.

YES, the Vin Tune is well worth it and I would be considering things like the Whiteline Sway Bars or the PHAT mufflers

For sway bars, is a rear bar only necessary (to reduce understeer)? Or are there significant benefits to getting a front bar too?

I checked out the threads on the PHAT mufflers, definately got me interested! Are there any substantial benefits to going the full dump/centre/muffler system with the 3.0r-b? Or do most people just get the muffler to gain a nicer sounding exhaust note? (which would be nice too! :D )

Yep it was in melb, but it was advertised higher than $23k, so might not be the same one.

Which one did you buy? Looking at your introduction post, I'm guessing it may have been the grey 06 with sat nav that I think was for sale in williamstown or south melbourne? If so, you prick! :) I was going to arrange an inspection for that car until it was pulled from carsales, hehe. My preferred colour too.

And yeah, it's easy to fall in love!

You'll find that many of the people here who initially went only for the upgrade to the rear sway bar, eventually got the front one too. As much as there is noticable improvement over stock with only just doing the rear bar, doing both gets you all the way there.

Doing the rear PHAT mufflers on the 3.0R-b will get you not only a better sounding note, but will give the system an improvement in flow too. Someone please correct me if I'm mistaken, but the dump/centre pipes are to benefit those who have the 2.0T and 2.5T Liberty GT's.

Hi this is what worked for me

Postby DeMobBoss » Sun May 03, 2009 11:08 am

Hi,
Firstly let me take the 'Liberty' of congratulating you on your new purchase! (Sorry couldn't resist)...
Through trial and error this is what worked for me in the end - but some of the other threads have alot of good info you should research too.
Performance mods for the naturally aspirated (NA) 3.0RB are incremental and good fun that way too. For the exhaust I recommend Hitech mufflers. If you call them at their Sydney phone number, Lambros the owner will point you in the right direction. The rest of the exhaust system is probably best left alone if you're gonna keep it NA but thats just what I think. Taking the resonator box out makes a world of a difference sound wise inside the cabin - you can hear the rasp of the Porsche valve gearing sliding into action at high revs and it still remains street legal; BMW M series cars get away with this alll the time stock from factory. Probably the highest power yielding mod worth doing, I've found, is putting a Haltech interceptor piggy backing on your ECU. That last mod could void your warranty if you're not careful so make sure you find a friendly pro-mods Subaru service centre.

BTW to all you Sydney siders reading this STI Lindfield and Subaru Penrith are fairly pro-mods, within limits of course.
Hope that helps,
Osanda
