Hi everyone, just signed up as I'm looking to get a new car - looking at a 3.0R around 05/06 model. Looking to get a black one and slam it on some wide / low offset Jap rims.

Have had a few Subaru's before (RS Turbo, and a couple of WRX's) and am currently driving a modified Evo 8 and also a modified BMW 3 series but am looking to (dare I say it) downgrade a bit to a more sensible car.

lol @ downgrade
welcome to the forum bud, that sort of talk will get you banned!
haha
Re: the evo, you'll be upgrading in terms of luxury and comfort
and the bmw, you'll be upgrading in terms of the number of doors (assuming its a ci) 8)

I'm sure you will get alot of useful advice about the Lib on this forum mate

318i 4 door, so upgrade in terms of performance and luxury

Is someone able to tell me the differences between the 3.0R and the 3.0R-B?

According to Redbook, the B has worse fuel economy (12.5 v 10.9), weighs 50 kg less, does 6.9 0-100 v 8.2, has 18" wheels, ventilated rear brakes (solid on R), sport pedals and sports suspension.

I'm dubious about the fuel economy, weight....

What is the sports suspension on the R-B?

Which 0-100 performance figure is closer to accurate?

Welcome mate :D

Can't say I know a great deal about the 3.0L models... But, I do know that as a stock car (In 6sp manual form) they were good for 0-100 in just under 7 secs.

The 3.0RB came with Bilstein shocks as the sports suspension package... But unsure if they run the standard springs or ran the STI pinks... symthie, care to shed some light on the situation? :D

Welcome to the forums and I don't agree with going to the 3.0R or 3.0RB as a downgrade.

You'll be pleasantly surprised at how well the Liberty is put together and
solid it feels. I went from an Audi A4 Quattro V6 30 valve to the Liberty 3.0R and I'm still smiling from ear to ear.

no worries mate. yeah, they're the same springs as the rest of the non-STi models.

Don't take too much notice of the ADR fuel economy figure Bakks. Oh and welcome mate. Anyway, the worst I have gotten when commuting in Sydney was around 11.9l/100km. The ADR figure is supposed to be a highway weighted too. Don't know how they got that figure. HIghway mileage usually for me usually gets down to low to mid 8's with the potential to get to around 7.8 if strictly highway driving.

While it certainly isn't fast, its a bloody nice car just to cruise around in.

I'm going to go test drive a manual and an auto 3.0R tomorrow, then just have to work on selling both the other cars. I've been passenger in a manual before and was quite surprised at how sprightly they actually were! Sounds like its worth getting the B as there doesn't seem to be any price difference on the 2nd hand market.

If you're wanting a manual, the stiff shocks of the B are worth the discomfort for the 6 speed alone :D

Leaning towards auto at the moment, and the shocks would be replaced by coilovers almost immediately anyways 8)

don't bother with the spec b if you're not looking for the 6 speed and planning on replacing the shocks then. Might save yourself a few dollars.

Ok ta, will bear that in mind.

The 18s are also specific to the Spec B - is that correct?

Welcome dude! LOL! I'm sure a lot of Lib owners on here, modified and unmodified, will want to challenge you against your 3 series due to your downgrade comment. Both in performance, handling, and luxury comforts. :P
