Heyyy First Subaru I have questions

Postby Husker » Sun Apr 18, 2021 2:22 pm

Hey all, I picked up a black 2004 liberty gt wagon last week, she has alottt of k's, bad paint, no history and her auto trans feels ready to loose 2nd. Buut on the drive home I fell in love  .
So I have some questions. This is my first Subaru and when I get my cars I like to give them a full service what's different for a Subi?
I know upper engine cleaner is a thing but what else is there?
Are there any things I should replace to be on the safe side?
Also I would love to get some more turbo noise do all the intake kits require a tune or is it safe to run without one? Same for the exhaust?

Google "mesh filters" , I'm not sure how many and where they are on your motor but the turbo should have 1 at least. If they block they'll cause issues!

Where are you located? I have a 5eat gearbox for sale in melbourne, might be a good spare for you?

Thanks man, had a quick google you mean inside the banjo bolts right?
Already got a trans lined up, to have on hand if/when this one pops. What's the concensis on the strength of the 5AT? I know a little about the Subi manuals but nothing about the autos.
Also gonna do the front and rear diff oil seems like a good idea.
Out of curiosity are the H6 and GT brakes the same?

Yes the brakes are the same: awesome!
Just feed them good rotors (eg vmax) and pads that suit your driving needs and you’ll be sweet.

Oil loom contamination via the exhaust avcs & exhaust cam position sensors is also a concern worth checking on prefl GT.

Even standard Gt’s benefit from a tune and especially perform basic health checks prior

That’s inlet & exhaust pressure test, cats temp test, logging and learning view.

New maf and front af sensors are a good idea if any issues are revealed.

Have you installed an exhaust kit? Checking out aftermarket exhausts on 4wheelonline. Not sure if they have one for a Liberty.
