Just bought a MY08 2.5L NA liberty sedan, clean car with a bit of damage on the front bumper and a bit on the back nothing major.
Has an airbag light on the dash when the seat is back and light goes off when the seats forward, any ideas?

Welcome.

In relation to the airbag light/seat thing, perhaps unbolt the seat and have a look (& disconnect & reconnect) the yellow wire plugs to see if the problem goes away?

yeah, I'm not the only person that drives the liberty at the moment, dad likes to take it out and "Make sure it still works". no light for him, light for me. leading to believe its the connecter under the seat. anyway to fix that without buying a new seatbelt pre detonator? the cars already had 4 over the past 4 years all of them put in about 2 weeks before rego was due

Your cars FSM workshop manual will have the diagnostics for the airbag plug.
Eg it might have a continuity or resistance issue where it bends as the seat moves fore/aft.

Following the procedures will ensure your safety as well.
Link to FSMs in my signature below.

Just in case you use an obdii diagnostic plug when driving the car, the plug will trigger the airbag light on the dash :)

If its all too hard, consider replacing the seat, any gen4 bp bl seat will fit as regards mounting and airbag plug.
Minor differences with the electrics plugs if any, between prefl & postfl, easily overcome by re-pinning the plugs to suit either type.

The airbag plug has a lock, slide it forwards before pulling the plug apart, iirc.

Yeah, found the sweet spot with no light. I'm taking it to the local smash and auto-repairs, they rekon they can tell me exactly whats wrong and probably just tape it up and i wont move the seat until after rego.

is this with anything connected to the obdii port while driving? wanted to try and do something with a digital display where the GPS headunit is... thought that would be cool.

You have the stock navigation?
I'm using btssm hosted on a tv box to display virtual gauges on my nav.
iirc, torque and elm327 bt plug might be adequate for 2.5i.

I have the stock GPS headunit however i'm unsure if it takes video in. From what I could find looking up pictures of the back of the unit there are two types? Theres the one with audio as the right most button that looks to have an AUX in and one with a post-it and sun on it as the far right that looks to have video in. guess ill have to go and take a peek behind it and find out. Do I have to use a TV box or would I be better off with a raspberry Pi or something so that I could put in Android Auto and carplay without having to mess around with the facia kit.

Generally, c1 type navs do have video aux in, that’s the type with DVD map in glovebox.
C2 type has the DVD in the head unit no video aux in but potentially via a jdm tv adapter loom etc.
The easiest way to get aa/ac is with a wired dongle into an android tv box.
That’s my next mod ;)
If you want to know more I can start a thread regarding the mods, here it is:

Okay sounds like I have the C2 Type, does this headunit take aux in at all?
currently I'm using a Ciggie lighter radio adaptor for my iPod. My car does have bluetooth and my phone is connected but it only does calls no music though :( .
How hard is it to take apart the centre of the car? while i've got it off I may as well do the http://forum.liberty.asn.au/viewtopic.php?t=4032 at the same time while it out. I imagine that the carplay input will be in the centre console as well? keen to get carplay in the car though, coming from my bugeye that has a cheap kenwood bluetooth double din put in by previous owner.
