Dangry's 2008 GT-B INTRO!!!!!!

Well hello internets.

Dan here, I am 23, single and not really a long walk on the beach kind of guy, but don't mind a long sit on the couch. Oh and I am from Brisbane. I am known around the traps as Dangry, Swinny, Swinbourne, Dan, Daniel (if you are really made at me) or that guy (if you don't know me). Few of you already know me though, but I have never created an intro post or any post. I am quite active on the Facebooks, so may see you round there.

Anyway, enough about me. Let me introduce you to my car. 2008 MY09 Liberty GT Spec B. The car is nicknamed Zimmerframe and Gramps. Yeah I can hear all the MCM fan boys screaming saying I copied MCM. But this is my Gramps. He has such great powers that MCM could never match. Example of these powers, 2 old ladies tried to flag me down for a lift from outside a bowls club because they liked the look of the car. Yep, pulls all the ladies.

Here is gramps

Yep, know what you are thinking. Check out that Tarago in the background.

Ok, maybe you aren't. But I am. Seriously though. That was the day I bought it. 4 May 2014. Didn't pay that much by the way. Bought it 100% stock with 80,000km on the clock. It is the pleb spec B. No fancy nav unit, plus it is a slushmatic.

Over the past 2yrs I slowly worked out what I wanted to do with the car as I had no real clue. Although I did tell myself I wasn't going to do anything to it. I was going to keep it stock. I owned a 2004 WRX before the lib, so wasn't a stranger to subies, just new to Libs.

Anyway, moving on.

By about November that year, the car had a custom cat back on it and was dropped on Tein S Techs. Yeah stock lasted a whole 6 months.

Did some usual cosmetic things, eg lip, eyelids, grille etc. Oh and personalized plates for max respekt pointz. Managed to get a hold of the plates 5UBI3.

Then around March 2015 I decided life was too short to stay stock. Bolt on's started to happen.

Purchased a VF52, PW TMIC, AVO inlet, COBB SRI, finished off the exhaust so it was a full custom TBE with, let's just say a super high flow cat. No the cat ISN'T an empty shell.

After we finished installing everything. Ignore any zip ties you see holding things together.

The night when everything was installed was also a night of terror. I accidentally tied the bonnet to the garage door arm instead of the track. Shut the door, and bent my bonnet. Not going to upload pictures. Only make me relive the horror.

Moving past my stupidity. It was time to book the car in for a tune. Rang Tony Young at Coyote Tuning and scored a spot.

So excited me drives the car down to Coyote ready for its tune. This is where some fun begins. After damaging my bonnet and front qrts only 7 days earlier, I drop the car off to be tuned, only to receive a phone call from Tony saying he can't control the boost on the car. It just creeps. Now I thought the creep might be 5psi.

Boy was I wrong.

Here is the dyno sheet. Note we are running wastegate pressure of 8psi.

Even when we maxed out the WDC it had no effect.

Tony suggested the rear housing was the issue. Possibly exhaust flowing back through and speeding up the turbine. Was also a possibility the wastegate was hitting the dump pipe. Either way, I had to take the car back and work it out.

Disheartened, I drove the car back to my place and pulled the dump pipe off. Unfortunately the wastegate was clearing, which meant it was time for the turbo to come off again.

Took the turbo off and took it down to MTQ to have the wastegate ported and a larger wastegate flap installed. While they had it I also had a large actuator fitted and the entire turbo restored. That process took about 2 weeks thanks to the customer who got there 5 mins before me and dropped off 6 turbos to be rebuilt. *shake fist*

Re-installed the turbo and took the car back round to Coyote.

Car went back on the dyno and made a respectable 184kw @17psi on 98. Which didn't seem to bad for a 5EAT. Very conservative tune with no knock.

Was good having this extra power.

Anyway, moving on. Yes we are nearly at the end.

I finally got around to painting a new bonnet which I had purchased to replace my terribly damaged one. Also had the front qrts repaired and the rear bumper resprayed. I also purchased some 18x7.5 Work CR Kai's off Josh Larsen (some of you might know him, he owns a Gen 3 Legacy Wagon, that went pop last year unfortunately). Replaced the Tein S Techs with some MCA Blues 8 F 7 R. Threw some Bridgestone S001 tyres on the car and got a nice wheel alignment from a good mate of mine.

Should also pause for a second here and do a shout out to TJs Refinishers for the paint job and fixing up the front qrts. Did an AMAZING job at an incredibly reasonable price. Go see him now if you need a good spray painter. Will not disappoint.

Back on track. I purchased a few other bits and bobs and cleaned it up, best I could. This is how it stands at the moment *dramatic revel music* TA DA

That's it. That's all I have.

Anyway. I am sick of typing. Probably missed a whole heap of important things. But if you have questions let me know. If you see me around, don't be afraid to honk or shout at me, or wave. Whatever your prefer.

Sorry for the long post. Here is a poor attempt at a potato *insert potato*

Dangry out

PS I promise to work out image sizes next post. But for now you must all suffer mwahahaha.

With this addition, the forums might become more popular again.
We need some more of the Facebook peoples on here

Well I figured, I spend enough time telling Facebook peeps to come to the forums, I might as well utilise it.

I have been using the forums since I purchased the car and it helped work through a number of problems I have came across. Forums are certainly worth keeping around. Lots of knowledge is contained in here.

Oh and Wideload. Be AFRAID!!!! BE VERY AFRAID!!!

I am glad you find enjoyment in my pain. I certainly didn't laugh.

Worst night ever. I can still hear the creaking of the bonnet as it took on a new shape

Lucky there was no other car around and i manage to put to the side of the road safely. ..... It was a nissan pulsar back in the 80...lots of memory ... Embarrasin one that is hahaha.... I aint tellin anymore hehe.

Cheers,
Tien

1. God you talk too much. Like all this pent up talking that you've been holding in all your life, and finally popped your 4rums cherry....:o

2. Autos are gay. :bad:

3. Coyote tune, PW and vf52 are...actually pretty excellent choices!

5. Counting is not my strong point.

10. Where the bloody hell is the full mod list????

2. Awesome looking lib. And good to see the build thread tradition being upheld :)

Was just kidding about the autos. They're pretty excellent, bar a little sluggishness from the TC.

1. Only talk way too much on the internet. Boredom and internet is a bad combo.

2. M8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. :D

69. Me neither

10. Not much of a mod list

VF52 - ported exhaust housing, larger wastegate - Turbo work done by MTQ Engine Systems
AVO Silicon Inlet - would not recommend the Perrin inlet over the AVO one. AVO is a very very tight fit and required some modifying to make it fit.
COBB SRI
3in Custom mild steel TBE with single high flow cat, single resonator and hurricane mufflers with quad tips - Majority of it built by Rob Bliss Exhaust
PW TMIC
DW65C fuel pump
MCA Blues - 8 front 7 rear with top bearing spring seats on the front
Cusco brake stopper
QFM HPX Pads
DBA Street Series rotors
Work CR Kai 18x7.5 +42 wrapped in 235/40R18 Bridgestone S001 - Rolled front and rear guards with about -1 camber on the front to fit it in

Unsure if you count these as mods
Ultrex STi Lip
Ultrex Grille
Unknown brand eyelids

Think that's all

46. Thanks man. Try to keep tradition.

VERY nice GT-b. +Max respect from me. This is a prime example of what I want to do to mine; simple bolt on mods. I actually thought it would put out more than that from the vf52.. that shows how little I know :P

I am impressed at how you got those 18" tyres on 17" rims!

for the sake of a mod list, literally anything you ever changed is a mod ;)
