Hey all, I'm Matt. I've got a spec B Liberty 3.0r, I've been driving Subarus for a while, even having a short time with a BRZ before deciding I needed a wagon.

I've actually taken the car on a roadtrip down to Denmark in the south of WA, and funnily enough I've had the good graces of getting a CEL already! After overtaking someone on the road there my auto trans temp light came on, made me jump a little. After stopping the temp light was off, but I'm stuck in S mode (no Sports Sharp or anything like that) and cruise control won't work. I have a sad feeling my auto trans has decided to die, which kinda sucks as I haven't even put the car through its paces at all :(

I mean the car still drives, but it's pretty gutless at the moment and I assume it'll be like this until that CEL gets cleared or the underlying issue gets sorted. At least the transmission is covered under warranty I suppose, dunno if I should even consider driving back to Perth.

Anyway, sorry for the story, here's a photo when I got to Denmark.

I'm sure there is a member near you that has an obd2 adapter and torque to read your fault code.

Also I'd suggest contacting matt from kidotuning here on the forum, he might be on his way to visit perth soon and could read the code and at the same time tune your h6 and improve your auto shifting.

Hope it's something simple.

I had a transmission code come up once and after I cleared it, it never came back.

Great looking wagon. Yes definitely get in touch with Matt when he comes to Perth next. A wealth of knowledge and should diagnose and fix the issue in no time at all.

Thanks guys, I'm getting RAC to see if they can come out and hopefully clear out this code. I'll definitely get in touch with this other Matt when he's in Perth.

It's mostly scary because driving to Denmark and back involves a few hills and I'm worried about it actually being a transmission problem. Don't wanna blow it up haha, I really need to invest in an OBD reader.

Disconnect the battery to clear the code if you are stuck.

Code didn't clear after disconnecting the battery, car still drives and shifts fine though.

Did you put your foot on the brake pedal for 10-15 seconds after disconnecting?

If your car has a fault that causes a code it does not matter what you do. Even a scan tool and clearing it will be useless because it will just come back. The scan tool will at least tell you what is wrong so you can fix and clear it.

Oops. I'll give that a shot and see how that goes. Haven't had the temp warning come up since we got to Denmark which is nice.

Well it looks like the issue just solved itself? I'm so confused now haha.

Probably worth giving it a transmission fluid change when you get back to be safe.

Maybe a bigger transmission cooler upgrade further down the track?

Sounds like the way to go, still stuck without cruise control and this faux-limp mode but oh well.

I spoke too soon anyway, the code came back, funnily enough right after hitting a bump. Maybe it's an electrical issue?

I work like down the road from Subaru Osborne Park (where I bought it), so they can look into it further. Are transmission cooler upgrades a thing with these models?

With the Cruise control not working it could be that one of your ABS sensors has bitten the dust. Had that happen to me a while back.

It appears it was a speedo sensor that was both giving me screwy speedometer readings and also throwing an error code. According to subaru if there's any kind of CEL the cruise control will be disabled.

So if that fixes it then it's not so bad, I do get it replaced under warranty which is nice.

Now I can worry about other things, like getting rid of the swirl marks that absolutely cover this car, gah.

Turtlewax Scratch and swirl mark remover works wonders, just make sure you give it a good wax afterwards. It's hard work, but worth it.
