Hi!

I've registered here for quite a while thinking i'd be getting a 04 lib gt of some sort...It was either that or a new non-turbo liberty but after test driving them, it just felt like my old car (a camry >.<)

But yes, I've also had my eyes on a Volvo s40 T5 and a Saab 9-3 Aero, all at pretty good prices for 04 models... I guess i'm in the market for understated performance cars :S

But yes...Should I either snap up a 9-3 or T5, or slowly wait for a GT I like to pop up sometime down the track

do not get a vulva.... c**t of a car! :lol: (sorry, my mates joke)

1. we paid $50K for a T4 and then 2 years later were offered as low as $14K as a trade :evil:. apparently saab has an even worse resale?

2. we had nothing but trouble over the course of that 2 years.

3. (depending on how spirited a driver you are) the T5 (sedan) is not real stable under heavy brakes, its hard work to keep the rear end where it belongs.. behind you. goes pretty hard though?

my 2c.
I spend most of my money on booze, fast cars and women, I just waste the rest...

Saab would be a good buy for a secondhand car. A lot of people buy them at about this age as they've depreciated a lot in the first few years and it's a really good time to buy.

The Saab looks good, but I don't think the performance or handling is stellar by any stretch.

Had Saab sorted out their engine problems by 2004?
They had a nasty design fault causing the oil pickup to slowly get clogged, causing big engine seizeups long after the warranty expired.

I would think they have.

Happened to my boss's Saab 9-3 last year. It was about 5 years old.

Yeah, what had attracted me to Saab and Volvo was of their understated design, plus the fact that their Aero and T5 models have pretty much dropped 60-70% (The Aero I was looking at was 27k, down from its original price of 74k, that's almost a drop of 50k!)

I guess i'm looking at the GT for that understated sort of look...or else i'd be at the wrx club =p

There is a reason why the resale dies in the arse!!

If you have a massive maintenance budget, go with the exotics..

If not.. go the sube..

I wouldn't call Saab or Volvo exotic...

SAAB = FWD
VOLVO = FWD

SUBARU = AWD

FWD + Performance do not go together (well, not well anyway, ask any Mazda 3 MPS driver!)

Need I say more?

Welcome mate!

Having had experience with Volvo's in the past, I can tell you they are a bloody good car, but expect very large servicing bills. Especially auto an auto turbo.

Wouldn't touch the Saab because the value's drop off extremely quick (So do Volvo's by the way). Plus, there is a reason why they call them "a poor man's rich car" :P

I'd go Lib GT all the way. They are a good car for the money, value's hold pretty well plus general repairs etc don't cost an arm & a leg like they do on Euro cars.
