'Bogan In Grandpas Clothing' MY10 5GEN GT

G'day! I've had my MY10 5GEN GT Premium 5EAT since mid February and have more or less lurked these parts since then, so I figured it was about time I did one of these threads.

I come from a bit of a bogan family who are all about doing skids and making sick power with their V8s… which I admit can be a hell of a lot of fun… until you hit the twisty stuff and then it's downright scary. What drew me to the Liberty side of things was the fact that they are a bit of a wolf in sheep's clothing… there's so much satisfaction from burying the foot on a good bit of road and knowing that you're going to stick onto it and look a bit like a grandpa from the outside while doing it is hard to beat.

For now the car is stock as a rock aside from a set of Bridgestone RE003 225/45R18s I got put on about a month ago, and probably will remain that way externally for the foreseeable future. I love knowing that people don't quite expect it to get up and walk away when the hammer is down.



I'd love more torque between idle and boost, and better shift response out of the occasionally-nice-to-drive-with 5EAT for when I'm in the twisty bits. Could've gone manual, but I'm either sitting in traffic or driving hundreds of ks at a time on the highway so it didn't make much sense.

3" TBE, not sure what kind because I want it to stay as quiet as possible
RacerX TMIC
DBA HD4000 XS
Intima SS

+ probably some other crap if I can be bothered down the track

Cheers, I use my car a lot to get me to interesting locations for photography so I figured I'd be one of those guys that shoots their pride and joy

I've heard lots of stuff for and against the EcuTek, it's all a bit wishy-washy. In all honesty I wanted a COBB AccessPort 3, but the likelihood that COBB will come to the party with an AUDM version of it is seemingly more and more slim at this point.

I can sort out the ECU tuning side of things for you AND fix the transmission shifts(which EcuTek claim is impossible to fix)

I might have to shoot you a PM once I figure out the exact things I'm looking for. I guess the three biggest that I need from a tune are reversibility, safety, and not impacting my ability to get it serviced by Subaru. Might be interesting to see if anybody around the area is willing to have a catch-up.

I'd reckon ultimately, I'd be satisfied with about 20-25% more torque down low and from all I've seen that's definitely achievable; I drive mostly in Intelligent or Sport, I'd say I only actually put it into S# about 15-20% of the time due to the driving I do.

Is there any kind of ECU tune that can detect throttle attack and automatically switch SI-Drive modes on the fly without me needing to intervene? If so that would probably be my number one request.

Buy a 2nd hand EzyFlash device, I can flash stock tune plus new tunes onto it to replicate the Cobb's ease of flashing tunes.

Yes, I can have it default to the S# setting from Sport BUT I would avoid it purely as the brutality on the auto is not ideal

I can vouch for Matt (KiDo). His tunes is fricken amazing, completely changed how the car feels. The torque is now mental, and the feeling when boost kicks in will make me loose my license

Plus I have the xforce tbe on the car and the tune helped quieten it down when in I mode. Also not a bad exhaust but is abit noisy.

Can I ask a question though, why do you want to take it Subaru for servicing? In my experience with dealer servicing they overcharge for everything, misdiagnose problems and/or make things up and generally end up costing a fortune... In my humble opinion find an independent Subaru specialist mechanic near you and take your car there. It'll be better looked after for less money

After a prolonged period of being in and out of hospital… time to get serious about the car again.

I've just got a bunch of stuff to stick onto it to give it a bit more poke:

Walbro 255 fuel pump
AVO catted dump pipe
AVO TMIC
COBB 3-port boost control solenoid
GFB Respons BOV

And I'm getting it dyno tuned in about 3 weeks. Once it's tuned it'll no doubt show up some deficiencies with the stock setup, I'm thinking brakes will be the next thing.

One of my rear struts is seemingly on the way out (has been since I got it, even though Subaru didn't pick up on it after being told about it at 4 separate services — good thing they're not getting any more of my money). Contemplating coils if I'm going to have to replace what's there, but I would prefer not to negatively impact the harshness of the ride as it's still my daily. Any advice from the peanut gallery?
