Hi all,
Purchased my spec b brand new & have now passed it on to my wife as her daily drive...
minor mods as are listed 2.5 inch mandrel bend stainless, STI tune, STI rear laterall link, STI strut brace, & STI springs on the standard Bilstein dampers
The suspension setup has been great up until 12-18 months ago when it started to get a pretty heavy knock on full lock, when doing a u-turn etc which
i have tightened & lubed each & every service by Subaru but it's getting to the point where i've had enough...
sooooo, i'm wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem (i'm led to believe it's a common issue with the Bilstein tower) & any feedback on coilovers...???

thanks for taking the time to read & i look forward to any wisdom you can share

cheers
Glenn

Knock during u-turns? Sounds more like centre diff issues to me...

That sounds like the front CV joints are gone to me. Happened to our old Outback at about ninety thousand kms.

Yeah knock/clunk on full lock is typically a CV joint. But surely subaru would have thought of that if you've been to them. The other one to check is the sway bar end links. When mine loosened after installing my sway bars they clunked on full lock.

thanks heaps for your input guys...

it's definitely not CV's as i've been through a few over those over the years thanks to the boots splitting...
Car has religiously been serviced by Subaru and i have been advised that this issue is inherent with the Bilstein setup by a number of Subaru staff...
I'm confident what i'm told is true given that i've not been charged for the tightening & lubrication @ each & every service...

i will reply with a more clear diagnosis in the next few days as it may well be my description or explanation that is lacking...

CV joints go clack clack clack.

After having done a centre diff in Junior's MY09 2.5i wagon, the centre diff is a much more savage knock-knock.
It will even give loud "knock" when driving straight ahead caused when the front and rear wheels over-run each other.

If it does it when cold, then CVs most probably.
The centre diff gets worse with heat, that is it will knock when hot.
If it is good when cold and gets bad when hot, centre diff.
If it does it in both directions (left-right) and also in both other directions (forward-reverse) I would get ready for a centre diff.

Junior's took me 8 hours to change out in our garage.
