Hey Guys, new tbSTI

Postby spoolin » Wed Mar 11, 2015 10:33 pm

G'day Blokes (and girls if there are any),
My name's Jon, Im 21 and live on the Sunshine Coast of QLD and I fairly recently picked up this fairly modified '06 2.0 tbSTI Liberty and I can honestly say, I love this car.
I previously owned a 2007 WRX STI with a huge 'handle' on the back and badges and a stigma that said to everyone ''I'm a redneck try race me'' Nah it actually wasn't that bad and I loved the car to death but had to sell it to put a ring on the wife :-D . I loved the subaru and I literally couldnt stay away so i bought the Liberty. The Liberty is ALMOST all that performance and so much more, its a bit of a sleeper, that's why I love it.
As yet I don't have any huge plans for the car, Ill be needing new tyres soon (suggestions?), I've had replaced every suspension bush under the car within reason with super pro bushes, I plan on having the front bumper resprayed as it has a few tiny chips. I would like to at some stage run coil overs on this car as i did on my WRX to wrangle a little more 'low' out of it but its not high on the agenda. I also own a Toyota Landcruiser that for the past 2 years has sucked every last cent of my funds into modifying and that project is drawing to an end so who knows whats in store for the Lib
About the car:
Obviously its got all the STI bits; lip, spoiler, wheels, springs, mcintosh sound etc etc
Custom gear, its pretty standard :P
-Dark Tinting (from all of my reading on the forum seems would make a lot of you guys happy :P)
-Full 3inch turbo-back HiTech exhaust system with original STI tips
-Injectors
XC kit from MRT which for those of you that don't know (I'm sure most, if not all of you do) includes:
-EcuTeK MRT ECU software upgrade
-MRT Top Mounted Intercooler
-MRT Cold Air Intake
-VF52 Turbo
-500hp Fuel pump
As a result of all this, the car has been dyno'd to 207kw at the rubber so it provides plenty of smiles :D
A few pics of the car when I bought it, I don't have any of my own because when I bought it I drove it home then left for work 3 days later and haven't been home since for any decent length of time...enjoy (and sorry for typing so much)

Wow!
I'd recommend Shockworks as you're looking for coilovers.
This car deserves that for sure.
And btSsm for android logging.

Interesting that it has a vf52: it could mean upgraded headers too?
Any idea of who tuned it?

Ben is on the money again - I was going to recommend shockworks and ask about the VF52 WRT headers :) It would need to have either a custom up pipe ("1.5 scroll" like owen) or replaced headers/up pipe. It makes the dump much easier though.

Nice lib, welcome!

Hey guys,
Thanks for the comments.
While I can't answer your questions for sure (as I am 1800kms from the car and I've only spent 3~ days with it) I can only tell you guys what the previous owner told me, because apart from when I bought it and a couple times (to check vitals) on the 1200km trip up from NSW I haven't had a proper look under the bonnet.
I will look into shockworks, I had BC coilovers on my WRX and swore I'd never use them again.
As to who tuned, I believe the MRT guys did (Zac?) I called them and spoke to the guy who reckons he tuned it but I'd still like to get it done in my possession as well if you guys could recommend anywhere...if not possible a Kido tune by Matt.
Thanks guys

Get the boys at AM Auto in Noosaville to have a look over it.

As for tuning, I'd probably suggest Coyote Tuning in Albion :-)

XC kit should have an "MRT" intercooler, nfi what that looks like.

The MRT cooler looks like a Avo, Perrin, Mishimoto style cooler so looks stock under the engine cover.
I didn't realise they used VF52 turbos though, I thought they used something different.. but who knows!

When I'm back down that way I'll definitely get onto you about tuning the lib mate, if you wouldn't mind could you pm me some details on your tuning methods and approximate costs etc
Cheers.

This was done back in 07 so I guess that qualifies as 'back in the day'?
If so how effective is this IC and should I be looking at upgrading again?
