Change from JDM K20a to Liberty GT

Postby gtspec » Fri Jul 11, 2008 3:58 pm

hey guys im new to this forum

i just parted with my car the other night, very sad moment lol... it was a EG civic with a Type R JDM k20a conversion, had the plates MRK20A.. more details at carsales.com.au search under k20a..

In its place i put a deposit down on a Subaru Liberty MY07 GT spec B sedan in silver, i took it for a drive and fell in luv with it str8 away. A couple of questions i couldnt find the information for that i hope you guys can answer

- Motor name (e.g k20a)
- Turbo size
- how much boost is running at stock
- how hard is it to boost the car without effecting the SI drive

There all the ones i have currently, but being a new to subaru im sure there will be alot more to follow..

welcome,

ej 25t, stock boost is not enough...... around 15psi, people have run higher boost (17-18 psi) through a hks evc boost controller, si drive has nothing to do with boost, its just makes adjustments to the throttle......... i just ask phat gt about that. ...... turbo size too small vf34..... it think

with questions like these, i can tell your already looking at modding it.

IHI VF46
This is the standard equipment turbocharger used on the USDM Subaru Legacy GT MY07. The VF46 utilizes a new five-arc scroll design to improve low and midrange performance over the previous VF40. 07/08 Liberty gets the same snail.

Welcome gtspec!

Nice I love the K20!

Yeah as the others have mentioned its the IHI VF46, and no it is not sufficient if you are chasing over the 200 mark.

I came from a decent powered SR20DET so yeah felt like a downgrade in power. This will be changed very shortly.

Ask the Phat man for all your liberty's goody needs! He has supplied my new running gear.

Try and make it to our meet tonight.

Phil.

Removing the resonator definately gives more sound but i dont think it gives extra performance.(IMO)

Yep, EJ25 is right, you will get increased sound but there wont be any noticeable gains from removing it.

Start with a HKS Hybrid panel filter and sway bars. Both are cheap mods to do and if you think the cornering performance is good, just wait until the sways are installed! Then if you want the boxer rumble, have a play with the exhaust setup and at the very least change the mufflers.

All depends on your budget mate.

I believe its the same at 15psi but unfortunately it drops dramatically through the rev range as seen through my dyno. A ebc can aid this.
