Hi All,

Always been a fan of Subarus and with the birth of my little guy I decided it was time to get a family car. After much turmoil choosing between forester and liberty my wife decided she much preferred the liberty. Tossed up between the 2.5i, 3.0 and the turbo however ended with the boring choice of the 2.5i purely based on fuel costs.......its amazing what going down to one income makes you think like!

Plans are to keep relatively standard as performance wise I dont see much "bang for buck" out of the 2.5i, just going to connect up a rear view camera, tow bar and satellite stereo controls on the steering wheel and acouple of other little things. Yesterday completed the illuminated cup holder mode simply because i missed working on cars and it was cheap!!

Formally into minis and bikes with photos below.....sold to help knock down the mortgage, growing old sucks!

Name: Craig
Ride: MY07 Post FL Liberty Wagon Premium
Location: Parramatta
Mod: Illuminated Cup Holder
Plans: As above
Occupation: Engineer (Originally Mechanical, now Civil)
Year of birth: 1987
Interest: Cars and motorbike and my little man, then getting my little man into cars and motorbikes!
Previous Rides: Leyland Mini S 998, Leyland Mini LS1275 with a bored 1310 and many other mods, N15 S2 Pulsar SSS and DL650 (V-Strom).

I have some sad news for you, with a tune and a gentle right foot, the GT gets similar/better milage than the 2.5 :) (that said, just try to keep your foot at bay - I haven't been successful)

In any case, welcome to the forums! Relatively cheap and worthwhile mods would be HIDs+LEDs, brake pads/rotors.

Thanks guys! yeah putting the family first was when the whole "grown up" thing really hit.........growing up is completely over-rated.

yeah i miss the mini, was actually a matching numbers, 10th last mini ever built in australia.......and was a lot of fun to drive.

now just doing homework on installing a reversing camera now as the next project

HardwareBob the real truth behind the none turbo option......and this was omitted so as to not offend any, so apologies if this does......my wife can only drive auto and I'm an old school car guy and prefer manuals for performance/sports cars. I didnt want to have an auto Turbo.

Absolutely no offence intended to anyone that owns a auto turbo, thats just my own narrow minded opinion, I used to have a company car I got to used which was a turbo pre-FL sedan which was auto and was nice, just not my cup of tea.

Will be looking into the pads and rotors soon as I will soon need to replace the front bushes and front pads so probably do rotors at the same time

hey mate,

I also did the cup holder mod a while back but just recently my crappy red LED's are on their way out. Which lights are you using and could you point me in the right direction? My Dad and I have pulled apart the console too many times to have to keep replacing lol

And mine don't seem to shine bright all the way around the ring like yours do!

Thanks!

ZD0154 was the jay car part number, I'm not very electrically minded so I took the part numbers from the walk through (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=4032) into jay are and said that was what I needed. I also used a resistor of the value in the walk through

Hope this helps!

ahh yes, i know that walkthrough well, thanks to Hobber!

I think I ended up buying those little red lights from Jaycar also, but did not get a resistor. Will have to check it out.

My theory was that if I found a small enough SMD LED that pointed the light forward, it would be enough, but I reckon the ones you've got will work better cos you can actually poke the light through the hole yes?

Anyways, thanks for your help!

pre-leading with i have no electronics knowledge what so ever! i think the resistor is pretty critical to ensure the correct voltage to the LED. maybe this is why your burnt out? I would definitely recommend whacking the resistor into your circuit.

Yeah i bought the LED holders but as the walk through stated found them a little small and the moved around in the hole that is designed to hold them. I just put tape on either side of the hole and poked a hole through the tape and then put the holder back in that hole.....if that made sense

That is EXACTLY what happens. LEDs are rated to a specific amperage, and when you exceed it you dramatically limit the lifespan.

i'm pretty useless with electronics too, hence why i gave the SMDs a shot LOL I assumed they drew pretty low power

Off to Jaycar for me then lol

Thanks for all the help guys and sorry for hijacking your thread Craig
