Just a new Melbourne lady

Hi all.

Not all new to the club liberty page, but I haven't introduced myself or my ride as I'm a little shy.
And I guess I'm not a huge car nut - but its changing rapidly since buying my 07 LGT spec B.

Previous ride was an 07 Impreza RS.

Modification plans are mainly cosmetic/maybe a tune. It's a daily and I'm a poor student with little cash.
Car was bought with Cat back exhaust and cheap 20 inch wheels.
I have already changed the wheels, put on an OEM grill, boot lip spoiler, parcel shelf and doors covered in Dynamat, and, because the old one blew, an updated Subwoofer.
Future plans: New springs for a slightly lower ride (not sure about coilovers yet), turbo back exhaust and quad tips, a tune by Matt, some personalised plates and probably some extra bits and pieces my partner will talk me into.

A little about me if you care:
fresh graphic design graduate, in my mid 20's, likes a classy ride.

Don't have any decent photos of it yet, just holding out for spare day and some nice weather/locations.

I'm a graphic designer. You've just studied graphic design.
I have a LGT. You have a LGT.

...I support Richmond. You support Carlton.

So close.

Haha :)

Very nice car. Black always looks smart when it's nice and clean. Beautiful cars to drive and look at, the facelift Libs!

Auto or manual?

mmmm welcome, better rims on there now 8)

Not sure how firm the ride would be with so little sidewall....might be a pain on coilovers...

Manual, nice one!

Enjoy your time on here, ignore the odd bickering coz it is a good forum.

Yeah that's a good point, I hadn't thought of that.
I'm going to throw some king springs on it this week and see how it rides.
Thanks J.

I look forward to bumping into some other melbournians on here!

So the lib overheated last night and I'm yet to determine why or how. Water pump has seized along with the timing belt and pulleys... damage to the motor looks bad and will probably take 10 hours to pull apart and assess what is salvageable. Mechanic is thinking im up for a new motor.

Pretty shattered as I've only had it about 9 months.

Any advice on finding a second hand engine?
Use small words, I'm way out of my depth with engines.

Plenty of 2.5t engines being wrecked, but as a rule, most people who blow up an engine rebuild it bigger and better and badder etc etc.
Depends what your ultimate goals for the car are, how much money you have and how long you can deal with it being off the road.
Depending on how badly your engine blew up you might be best just rebuilding it as is.
No matter what happens now, based on what you've said, you're at least several k away from a drivable car, sadly.

IF your engine really is toast, it's a better option to put in an EJ257 from japan, much better engines, and you're looking at a similar cost AIUI

Yeah which is just what I needed before Christmas.
Looks like I'll have to take all the presents back!

Is there any places you can recommend for a rebuild? Eastern suburbs preferably.

My personal choice would be find a low km MY09+ WRX motor. Preferably MY11+ WRX.

Upgraded turbo, better engine, bolts into stock location with ease
