Back of hols now. The following pictures show what happens when your engine eats a defective cat, most of the debris finished up in cylinder 5 enough to bend the con rod. Those of a nervous disposition should not look at the following pics. :D

Waiting for the report on how much and what work needs doing to get me back on the road.

The strip down report goes as follows.

Micro polish the bearing journals on the crank.
Rebore the cylinders.
Fit oversize pistons with new rings.
Fit new bearings both main and big end
New gasket set
Replace 8 bent valves
Reseat all 16 valves
Fit new timing chain kit.

So not to much then :D

Not as well as I would like, finally managed to make phone contact, they have no record of my emails or my post sent recorded delivery. Have to resend everything but at least we contact now 4 weeks after my car stopped.

Ok finally have full report including rebuild costs which come in at a shade under GBP4500. The supplier of the cats is being a complete arse, they logged my complaint but I have not had any contact from them with regards to this problem.

Finally after 5 weeks of being ignored the supplier is sending someone to look at my engine on Monday. So another day off work to meet them there 220mile round trip. Lets hope this is just to confirm the engine builders diagnosis rather than start looking at ways of getting out of it. Fingers crossed this is the start of the end.

Epic Story Richard - the engine looks pretty faaaaarcked with all the shavings in it.

Hope you get a resolution - over here we have a Small Claims Tribunal for things like this when manufacturers/suppliers don't support their work/goods. Hope you don't have to get that far....

Hi Murray, we have the small claims court over here. Hoping not to go down that route, still waiting to hear what the cat supplier is going to offer/not offer. Hope to know by the end of the week.

This is fast becoming a legal matter as the supplier has denied any liability. Oh surprise surprise.

So happy can hardly believe it, the company has agreed to meet my claim in full and has now provided us with a hire car already.

The rebuild will include a brand new still in the box short motor, with the heads being reworked. In effect I will have an engine that has zero miles on it. :D :D :D
