Having taken some pictures of the back of the valves with a probe camera it is clear the engine has injested some of this material. Also another SpecB owner had the cats break down and just clog his EGR valve so going to have a look in there tonight. I guess when the engine comes apart im going to find the material in the cylinders.

Time to get some legal people involved :twisted:
The first engine died after eating to much CAT
The second engine died of a broken piston
The third engine is in the car
The fourth engine is in the machine shop

So far: Rotrex Supercharger (16 psi) FMIC,DW300c fuel pump, ID1050 injectors
Producing 431bhp and 350 lb/ft torque on the Rotrex SC not finished yet
Raptor headers, 75mm Milltek exhaust with Quad tips,
Custom made 4032 forged pistons by JE Pistons, forged conrods, Exedy Clutch
K sport 8 pot front, 4 pot rears all on 330mm discs, Hel brake lines
Meister R coil overs, Whiteline 21mm rear ARB, Perrin end links and strengthening brackets
Complete Whiteline kit for the front suspension including steering rack
One off Carbon effect Front grill, Carbon lip spoiler, Exterior De-chromed, LED interior light conversion.
Recaro Leather front seats with all functionality.
Waist spoiler, Smoked rear lights,, LED sill plates, LED sidelights
Prodrive PFF7's 18x8, in Bronze shod with 235/40/18 Goodyears.

Heres some pics of the back of the valves, another guy in the uk had the same problem on his Spec B but luckily the bits got stuck in his EGR valve.
I'm going to have to send the engine off to be dismantled by an independent assessor to verify the cats were the cause of engine failure, then its just going to be a fight to get it all sorted.

Spoke to the area manager today of the company that sold and fitted the cats, he said thatbif the cats caused the engine failure then they would cover all costs even consequential. So all we have to do now is prove it. But there is a long way to go between a phone conversation and getting the bill paid.

Going to take the whole car to API for the independent assessment. Watch this space. :D

Did you get a heap of unburnt fuel flow through and detonate in the cat? Like on wot and backing off before it gets burnt off?

Good questions.

I'm not sure how a metal cat can break down, no doubt that they will blame me for causing it by driving. The question is are they fit for purpose.

with my limited knowledge of engines I'm not sure how material gets into the exhaust port but it has something to do scavenging.

GL with the liability claim and the eventual rebuild. Are u planning any internal upgrades.

Should probably upgrade to quality ceramic cats for the new build.

Not sure what to plan for until the engine is stripped, it was working well with no issues and most of you guys running sc setups haven't had any major issues?

Just stripping the engine down and doing the report is going to cost £500, which I may get back plus loss of a days wages and trailer hire costs.

The company started stripping the engine today. First comment was that the inlet manifold was full of debris and the debris was up behind the inlet valves. Due to the amount of debris there not sure if the inlet manifold can be cleaned with 100% confidence. More news tomorrow.

No definitely not billet, the tell tale honeycomb folds of metal is obvious. Spoke to a local cat converter manufacturer, their opinion was manufacturing defect
