Melb - MY07 BGT

Introduce yourself

Melb - MY07 BGT

Postby asfletch » Wed Mar 19, 2014 2:10 pm

Hi All,

Very happy to have bought my first Subaru - an MY07 Liberty GT Spec B.

This forum was invaluable for pre-purchase research, so thanks for that!

It's bog standard apart from a new turbo (coz the previous owner cooked the first one!) - feels much like stock but gives a handy little filip of 147kW atw. Only plan for it at the moment is a detail - lots of swirls in the paint when you look up close. It's already proving a bugger to keep clean, but it's black and awesome so I don't mind.

Just saw there's a cruise on Sunday - I would dearly love to come, but have a new baby so have to stick close to home. Ah well, maybe when he's old enough to enjoy it too :)

Cheers,

Adam

Was it something I said???

Maybe I should add my car history so ppl can take potshots ;)

Fiat 124AC
Toyota MR2 (AW11)
Nissan Pulsar GTiR
Renaultsport Megane 225

The Liberty is the first auto, but I guess it had to happen some time...at least it's responsive, esp. in sports sharp mode!

Cheers - yeah they were both great fun (and great value at about $3k and $8k back in the day!). MR2 had such sweet handling but couldn't beat GTiR bang for buck. Just realised it had best power to weight of all my cars by quite a margin. Also had coilovers and was almost impossible to unstick. My gf (now wife) was not a fan though ;)

Fiat - 960kg - 85kW (1995cc transplant) - so 11.3kg/kW
MR2 - 950kg - 96kW - so 9.9kg/kW
GtiR - 1220kg - ~185kW (3" exhaust but no tune - 141 kW atw IIRC) - so 6.6kg/kW
Megane - 1365kg - 165kW - so 8.3kg/kW
Liberty - 1545kg - 190kW (approx. with custom turbo but stock boost) - so 8.13kg/kW

Thanks - just had look at your profile - great idea to tint front windows! Yours looks much more symmetrical. Sway bars worth doing?

the tint is not quite exactly the same, but its close enough for me.

Sways are definitely worth doing if you like your car to handle nicer around the corners. From standard you usually feel the car wanting to understeer quite easily. Even just beefing up the rear sway and with some HD mounts will make a noticeable difference in cornering ability. The front bar you wont notice as much if you aren't into handling mods. But by all means, the rear one is a must.
Cheers
